My A/C finally ran out. I'm pretty sure its still stuck on the same ol R-12 refrigerent. Tempted to convert to 134a but I rather go with R-12. I know I race the darn thing on occasion but its still my daily driver and its getting too damn hot nowadays.

So, anyone know of any shops in West LA that'll charge R-12 to my A/C for my DSM? At least for a decent price since I know the stuff is like gold. Of course, if you know of a place that'll do the r134a conversion w/o charging an arm and a leg that could work too.

IIRC, you can buy R-12 refrigerant in Nevada.

You may not like this procedure.

First, go here (http://www.imaca.org/training.htm) , spend five minutes reading the study guide, and take the 25 question "open book" test for (EPA) Technician Certification. This will cost you 15 bucks.

Print out your temporary certification.

Then search on ebay for R12 Freon. Something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7911974820&category=46094), or this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7911318883&category=46094) .

Or you can purchase R12's alternative, named 'Freeze 12 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7911230084&category=46094)' but I have no experience with this stuff, and I cannot vouch for the claims made for the substance.

Whoa, much thanks! I was wondering on how to get EPA certified. I rather do the work myself. Now all I need is someone's garage to blow...err, work on shit.

Any luck? Naw, didn't take it yet. Been busy as hell taking care of a ton of paperwork for CSULB. I did get an offer to have a Socal DSM'er recharge my A/C this upcoming weekend. So that'll work for me. But I still wanna go for the certification. How'd it go for you?
