ewww no offense, i love how we're getting all pan-Asian ethnic and shit, but remember, please:
Chinks do NOt dress like GOOKS...i resent that our ppl our being put in gangsta gook category. We are very good with our ghetto T-shirts and poor color-coordination, and natural jet black hair, instead of those disgusting blonde dyed cockroach antennae. Does Jet Li in Fist of Legend cut his hair like that? i don't think so. Only ppl who have their hair like that, as far as i can think of, is k-pop rap pretenders. Oh look, i'm so cool cuz i can wave my hands in your face. Damn koreans and their pesudo-pencilness. China should cross the Yalu River again to regulate some STYLE into those mountain ppl. And to cook. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY ALL KOREANS LIKE KIMCHEE?
actually the way i dress is why everyone thinks i'm poor and FOB, cuz I wear pretty cheap clothing for long periods of time until it gets shabby. Ironic that Poor people and FOBs are sporting expensive name brandwear. Oh well...

>> heh...im stylish and not only by "azn" standards. i admit i am a trend-whore and i peruse the racks of malls looking for the perfect outfits. style is very important to me since, to me and im assuming most people, what i wear is an expression of myself. my style tends to change every now and then so maybe im not a stable person? haha okay maybe thats reading too much into it, but anyways, i really cant stand conforming to these dress codes that some asians seem to have. i like being unique and i like trendsetting, its what helps me from succumbing to everyday monotony. i am fricken cool mwahahhaa...*stare*

I can't say I've noticed any difference whatsoever between the way Asian people dress and the way white people dress.
Nope, I just looked at a couple of Asian people just then and there's no difference.
Where did you get that picture? :)

Well, this is more an Asian American phenomenon than anything else. i suppose they all wear those weird school unoforms where you live.

At University?? Only when there's a Back to School night going on at a local nightclub :P
And anyway, the high school I went to had a total Asian population of half of one person.

here's my observation...(not novel)
chinese girls have more arched eyebrows.
japanese girls have flat eyebrows.
korean girls have fake eyebrows.
all generalizations, of course, but that seemed to be the trend in college.

My observations
Asians either dress really well or dress like shit.
You got your typical 25 and older asians who all shop at bannana republic, and the only color they got is black.
Then you got your rice rocket highschool and college kids who wear wide legs like its 1996.
Then you got the trendy people who can mix up helmut lang, prada sport stussy, triple 5 soul, target and nike dunks.
best dress asians
---------------------
Tokyo
London
New York
Hong Kong
worst dressed asians
----------------------
LA
SF
New York
Hong Kong
Hong Kong and New York are on both rankings cus its a 50-50.
I guess I would fall into the category of "Asian that dresses like shit." Perhaps if I had more money, I might dress less like shit...but probably not. Khakis or shorts and a T-shirt is fine with me. Some of the stuff that I see people sporting nowadays blows my mind. What's up with those strange whittled-from-wood/wedge-shaped shoes? Give me some Adidas tennis shoes anyday. Seems like the only time my wardrobe is brought to "current" is when a girl does it for me. Whatevers. To each his or her own--it's all a matter of preference. I just happen to value fine dining, electronics and adventure more than I do clothing. One thing though: if you're going to judge me as a person based AT ALL on what I'm wearing, you're a superficial, materialistic FOOL in my opinion (directed at no one here in particular...just a general, universally applicable rule of mine).

I'm pretty much the same as Karizma. Trendy and all.
I'm addicted to clothes shopping, and I think it's important to only go out looking my best. Doesn't mean I spend hours getting ready just to go take the garbage out, but I'm definitely not going out in rags and a just-got-out-of-bed face.

Yep, I was curious to know how everyone felt about the comic, which I thought was kinda dumb, but overall, harmless. But I was even more curious about the "hating on AzIaN PrYde!" and rice rocket syndrome. They banned the phrase Asian Pride?!? That's actually kinda disturbing.
My point in starting this thread was to try and have a discussion on how to lessen the hating on aSiaN pRydE. As misguided as I personally might see it to be, sometimes (and this sounds cheesy), but those are still "our" people -- even more so because the whole rice rocket/asian thug phenomenon is a distinctly Asian [i:6f127bf122]American [/i:6f127bf122]creation.
I went to UCI -- home of the (Asian Pride) brave. And while I never lowered my Honda (it was a four door), it was nice being able to just chill within a community that was so overwhelmingly Asian and speaking in English.

Granted, as Asians, we frequently come across lotsa people who seem to have an overabundance of Asian pride. But don't you think that this applies to all groups? I know whites are generally less vocal about this kind of thing because it's socially unacceptable, but haven't you ever come across people proclaiming Latino pride and African American pride?
Nevertheless, I'm not too fond of those that blindly proclaim Asian pride or superiority for no good reason at all either...

i was into all the asian pride stuff in high school, which is why i get defensive when people knock it. i mean, it's not like the ones who criticize actually know what it's like to be in an asian-pride sorta clique. i went to a predominantly white high school--and it seemed like those few asians who weren't in our clique and who acted like they were disgusted by the whole asian scene just weren't very asian anyway. they acted that they didn't want to be part of the clique, but in reality, it was because we wouldn't have included them even if they wanted to be included. hence, the term, "haters".
anyhow, people who know me now will find it difficult to associate me with the asian pride stuff (or do they...?) and though i admit it's immature thinking that you're "clique" is the best, which clique [i:5e4666624b]doesn't [/i:5e4666624b]think that way in high school?
my best times in high school were probably throwing lame asian dances named "sensasian" and "creasian".

and generasian. but anywayz i know what its like to grow up and spend time around a large white population. in fact, i still am, cuz im not gonna be moving anytime soon. im not trying to be harsh and quick to cut em down -- its good to take pride in oneself. what i look down on is when they take it to the level that asians must dress a certain way, drive certain cars, etc. i dont like how asian pride can be link with materialism.

sad. i actually dress like that sometimes. and i do have long dyed hair and tweezed eyebrows (ick to thin drawn in eyebrows. thats just gross. your eyebrows are there to prevent sweat from dripping into your eyes or something). but it's not just asian girls who dress like that. black girls do too and heck, every girl at my school basically dresses somewhat like that. or most girls at my school. and most guys at my school dress like that guy too.

i'm quite sure it was lil asian kids that were the ones with computers in their households way before lil black kids. so kasia's line of thought doesn't work correctly, chronologically.
but then again, it was probably the lil white kids that first had computers because only their parents could afford computers.
mm.. makes you wonder.
but then there are the Jews, whom have been historically richer due to their ability to be bankers without offending their religion. In which case, maybe they started it?

Not the dress. The proportions (sadly, the padded bra too) :( , eye size and brown hair color.

actually, I don't know what it means to dress Asian enough. My hair is slightly highlighted, but no one really sees the difference until I'm in broad daylight. I dress very differently almost every day. Sometimes, I tend to go grunge. Other days, I'll be preppy as prep goes. Of course, some days, I'm urban. Then there are days, I just don't care if I look like shizit because I'm just not motivated to change from my jammies.

in keeping with the ORIGINAL topic....hehehe...
i believe in dressing classy. clothes are a way of personal expression. it's how one makes a first impression. and ultimately, it's how a person can appear to be more attractive if they're working with limited looks. i'm a big proponent of being well-dressed and well-groomed. i don't think it necessarily has to do with "dressing asian" as the concept of "asian-american" really runs the gamut. but i must say that my more "asian" friends would remark that abc's generally dress very "sloppily" whereas the asian-americans who lean more towards being "asian" tend to dress more to "impress". perhaps it's the whole nouveau riche mentality?
what always gave me a good laugh was my abc friends who call A|X "Armani" b/c to me "Armani" is only GA or EA but certainly not A|X. not to sound superficial or materialistic but i call it how i see it.

As long as you don't dress with Abercrombie's racist rags, Old Navy's OnlyAsianGirlsAllowed WARdrobe, Gap's UglyAsianGirls or Nothing clothing, and White American Outfitters, you're ok in my book.
Asian girls from Asia like Japanese girls who wear sexual innuendo English text shirts are super dumb and trendy at the same time. Asians in general who are dog ugly but wear expensive clothes like gucci, chanel, armani are like guys with small dicks who drive expensive cars like porsches, corvettes and lamborghinis. Again matter of opinion. As angel nympho says. Are you just judging people based on what they wear?? You rather have us walk around wearing nothing instead. Now you are playing into sterotypes yourself with the guys with small dicks with nice cars. Your statement has no bases.

i believe in dressing classy. clothes are a way of personal expression. it's how one makes a first impression. and ultimately, it's how a person can appear to be more attractive if they're working with limited looks. i'm a big proponent of being well-dressed and well-groomed. i don't think it necessarily has to do with "dressing asian" as the concept of "asian-american" really runs the gamut. but i must say that my more "asian" friends would remark that abc's generally dress very "sloppily" whereas the asian-americans who lean more towards being "asian" tend to dress more to "impress". perhaps it's the whole nouveau riche mentality?
but who defines what 'classy' is? in my opinion, clothes are a form of personal expression to a very limited extent. whether others can recognize this is, however, another question.
if i weren't in this profession and didn't have to live amongst superficial people (yes, i succumb to peer pressure when it's strong), i wouldn't care to wear anything i wear now.
my favorite clothes are very asian--my grandmothers sew them for me :) i feel most attractive and confident when i wear these (which isn't very often anymore b/c i feel self-conscious)...
my idea of what is truly classy and attractive--wearing clothes you get from the swap meet or the fashion district--and still looking beautiful.

Hi there :D
I find that what you wear really is an extension of yourself. What you wear reflects your clothing choices and your tastes.
Now whether that constitutes as Asian or not is pretty much how other people see it. Where I'm from, whether you're dressed Asian enough runs along two categories. First there are the people who just newly immigrated here. They're clothes are pretty different to what people here wear. Almost futuristic to me. It's either that or you fall into the rich Asian category. You're usually picked out of a crowd and assumed that you live in a certain area of the city. I found it amusing when someone asked if I lived there. Something about me looking like it.
My style of clothing has changed drastically in the past 3 years. So yeah. There you go.

hmm, I wear big sloppy flanels and open shirts that just about no one on campus wears. I luv it, makes me feel masculine (as opposed to the current styles which make guys look like fags)
I have been thinking, by now (college age) you can probably tell what someone is like by looks alone. think about it. by now most all of us have complete control over our wardrobes and shoes and hairstyles. even some of my poor friends find ways to distinguish themselves in their style.

i dress like really nice or really ghetto (thats because i am under a car or sumthing)
Daily: nice dress shirt name brand or boutique, slacks or dress pants, nice shoes, tie if meetings, suit if needed.
After hours: recycle or pretty turtlenecks and sweaters and other interesting attire.
Weekend: like an asian gang banger because those are my old cloths

95% of the clothing I wear is black. Sometimes I go out 100% black. Black pants, black shirt, black undergarments, black socks, all that. It's fun. But a few (very few) people has taken to calling me a goth. Ah well. As long as I have sexy black socks.

I dress weird. Got my own weird little style going on. Today a guy commented though. "Weird, Sarah, why'd you dress so Asian today?" I had no idea. If I thought I was dressing *Asian,* I would have changed. I was wearing a blue top with a low V-neck and a black miniskirt. ?!? Weird, huh, didn't know that was Asian. Maybe he said it because I'm Asian. *Scratches head*
Either way, I wear a lot of different shit. Favorite brands? Tilt, Triple 5 Soul, Tribal, Ezekiel, Element, etc etc etc... shit of that sort. Meaning.. .shit of every sort.
