View Full Version : A funny thing happened to me today...

A funny thing happened to me this morning. I went to court to argue a demurrer opposition (I won!), but when I got back to the valet lot where I'd parked my car just an hour and a half prior, I learned that one of the valets forgot to set my parking brake. The lot's on a hill so apparently my car rolled down the hill, out of the lot, across the street, up a curb, into another parking lot and into a Jeep Grand Cherokee. My car's all fucked up. The right-front looks as if a giant stepped on it 'cause it kinda went under the Jeep. It appears to be mostly body damage but you never know. Damn. Luckily, the parking company's going to take care of everything. I got a rental car (Pontiac Grand Prix--still new!=P) and they had my car towed to a friend's body shop for repairs. On the bright side, it kept me from having to return to the office for about two and a half hours while everything got squared away. On the down side, it turns out that I wouldn't have had to be in the office anyway 'cause there was an apparent bomb scare so they evacuated the entire building for those same two plus hours. Oh well...

I'll post some pictures soon as I can get to my digital camera...

Hahaha! Yeah, seriously, my poor baby's a wreck! Despite myself being a bottom feeder (lawyer), I'm personally not big on suing or milking situations such as these. It's all about karma... Which kinda makes me wonder WTF I must've done in the past to have such misfortune. I swear I didn't do nothin'!

But I must say this whole incident's been more amusing to me than anything else. I kinda wish I'd've been there to see it. If it weren't my car, I'd probably have laughed my ass off (seeing as no one was injured). Hell, just thinking about it, even though it is my car, it's still pretty fucking funny.

If this happened just a few months later, and it happened to be a total loss, I'd totally see this as an excuse to upgrade to a G35 Coupe...=P

JESUS CHRIST!! Sorry to hear. What an asshole!! You should have fed him your foot.

What the hell is going on with parking valets lately?!! kasia and I had this run-in with the valets at wakko yesterday.

Me: "You didn't give us the ticket! We JUST pulled up and have been starting at you, waiting for you to give it to us!!"

Valet: "Where did you put the ticket?"

Me: "You never gave it to me!"

Valet: "Where is it? You cannot get your car back until I have the ticket."

Me: "You mean that car...(pointing)...the one we JUST pulled up in? (Looks to other valet)...did you see us pull up in that car?"

Other Valet: "Yes...I think so."

(He was the guy who parked our car, incidentally).

Finally, we compromised and everyone just walked. They wanted us to stay, we were like, fuck dat!

Course, take a wild friggen guess who ended up having the ticket? (Hint, it was not me, the valets, or you.)

Way to go, Kasia!=)

No boot up the valet dudes' arses--they're pretty cool. As soon as the head honcho guy saw me (I park at their lot maybe once every week or two so they know me and my car), he came up to me shaking his head, placed his hands on my shoulders, turned his head down and told me the bad news. Hard to be pissed when they're so completely honest and eager to rectify shit.

Here's a picture of the damage...

It may not look like much, but the estimate's up to $7,500. It'll go up higher if they discover any suspension damage when they tear it down.

:(

Are you getting t fixed or totalling it out?

Well, I'd pretty much figured I'd get it fixed just 'cause I'm really in no financial position to get a new car right now (and my G35 Coupe isn't out for another few months). Also, I've gone through so much in this car--100k miles over five years, two girlfriends, so many trips to Vegas, SF and San Diego--that it carries a lot of sentimental value so I'd hate to see it go (weird, I know). But then my friend got me to thinking that, if there's substantial suspension and frame damage, they may not be able to bring it back to it's former splendor. So that's kinda scaring me. If I knew for sure they could fix it so that I couldn't tell it was in an accident, I'd much rather go that route, at least for the time being. We'll see.
