No one expects a Massive Attack.

Kraftwerk is still listed under "Experimental?" It's been 30 years since they started!

Floetry is pretty good. They've been out awhile now.

I saw one of their videos on Lifetime Movie Network when they have dead air between movies. It replaced the Jill Scott video they had been running for the previous two months.

And yeah. Don't ask why I was watching LMN.

Floetry, Ms. Dynamite, and The Streets have already had MTV/BET time (Floetry most notably) and I've heard some of the others get some airtime on radio.

We've been infultrated!

So you've noticed the ever-growing presence of UK artists in urban music, as well?

I'm digging the UK stuff. I've been listening to Roni Size for a while now. Dizzie Rascal is pretty cool. He's going to make a big name for himself. Ms. Dynamite, as well, she's rough. Mis-teeq is trying to replace Destiny's Child, they're okay. And, there's more talent where they came from. I think the UK urban music scene is going to have tight-knit relations with the US one in the near future.

Does anyone dig UK Garage? I'm not talking about the more waterdowned stuff that gets played in the US. Not that UK Garage is hardcore underground music, basically, it's the UK's answer to R&B.

Oh yeah, I don't have cable so I didn't know about the videos. That's cool, I'm glad they're getting airplay.

Does any else agree that ALL British music, especially urban British, is more sophisticated and "civilized" than American?

Nah, spent a few years living in London. So Solid are okay while Audio Bullys grew on me after repeat listenings. Very similar to Mike Skinner's lyrical musings.

erghh the 'U' word...how i detest it..a euphemism for 'black'...
Roni Size?? one of the pioneers of drum n bass, the man has been going for decades, i dont think he deserves to be lumped in with now defunct pop band misteeq
Dizzee..yeah yeah..theres a million other young black boys same& better, he just got picked by the right white people at the right time
floetry are excellent..but not really classed as an english act now as they had to go to Philly to get any exposure and a record deal!!
all the rest..cant be arsed..UK has so much more to offer but its pretty much underground..people like Roots Manuva, 57th Dynasty, Ty, even Amy Winehouse (with her nasally self)
UK garage doesnt really exist anymore..been replaced by something called grime (!?!?) which Dizzee used to a part of..
The Streets are cool to a point..
UK indie/rock is what people need to beware of cos we are leading the way..heh heh eat our indie dirt..

Oy, I love me grime!
You have a point. UK Garage doesn't really exist, while some say grime is just a sub-genre.

The Streets are cool to a point..
At first I didn't like The Streets. I thought Mike Skinner was just another "white" boy trying to be the next Eminem, but he's good. I like how he's middle-class and makes music for the middle-class. He has his own niche there. I dig.

UK indie/rock is what people need to beware of cos we are leading the way..heh heh eat our indie dirt..
The UK is leading musically, in general! Haha, I'm such a self-hater.

Found some Grime for anyone interested...

REPLEX (http://www.rephlex.com/main_index.html)

Grime. Sublow. Dubstep. It's Music. Different people call it different things, depending on when they discovered it. In the 80's, maybe it was House, Techno and Electro. In the 90's it was UK-G, Drum and Bass, Breaks or whatever. Now there are so many terms for it that the journalists can’t pidgeon-hole it any more. This is a good thing - it's music. Moody music. Multifunctional, multifaceted music created by Humans with Brains, Hearts, Machines & Electricity. Music that’s great for dancing to in clubs, or submerging yourself within your headphones, your car, your home, wherever. It's instrumental dance music, but it's the perfect forum for the best MC's and vocalists. We at Rephlex call it Grime to publicise to the people at large, outside of the specialist world of it's producers. The purists might debate the name, but while they do that, crews around the globe are uniting in this strong & fresh dance movement. In this age of Information Technology, people are able to easily find real quality that they actually want, without being spoon-fed compromised product. Now, it is a time of change and the soundtrack is Grime
