It's an ongoing joke amongst guys in their twenties and thirties: we cut our teeth pushing ourselves, working harder than the next guy, operating on some hyper-achievement batteries left over from high school and college.
And for what?
Money.
What can money really give us, aside from improved personal game consoles?
Respect.
From whom?
Women...?
It can't be that simple; yes, we aren't ruled by our fears or paranoia of how women perceive us, but most of us, if we were honest with ourselves, will keep coming back to that same drive that pushes us: so we can impress our SO's parents and easily transition into married life.
Bah!

hmmm... for me, i would consider women to be a perk if i had money, and not the ultimate goal... ironically i'd probably have a deeper attraction for women who are not going after my money. so what the hell am i doing all this shit that i'm doing for? i should just be out chasing after women.
ok i don't know what the hell i'm saying. beer is good.
I'd like to think I also live for my family and friends. But yes, the sig other is a necessary ingredient in my ultimate happiness. As for winning over the SO's parents, first things first man--I gotta get a significant other before I have to worry about impressing her parents. And really, so long as they don't despise me, it's all good.=)

When I was interviewing at various med schools, the common question was "why did you choose medicine"or " why do you want to become a MD"
Everyone I knew prepared for this question. Such an easy question, but it speaks volumes about you.
My response: "I have this unfulfilled desire to serve people"
At the time I was thinking the admission committe would buy it. Yes it sounded moist and I had no clue if it had any truth to it. I just wanted to get in. When I got into Cornell Med, I met one of the MD's that interviewed and she told me she liked that answer and now it's time to see if I was bullshitting or not.
Looking back 7 years from when I started med school, I am starting to believe what I said.
No I didn't do it fro the money: I work 80-100 hrs a week bringing in 48,000 before taxes during residency (not ashamed this salary number is known).
No I didn't do it for the respect, although I can't front it does help with some of the women I meet and parents that want to set me up. It does win over a gf's parents (like arex said).
Didn't do it for the women: Cornell Med is not known for the plethora of hot women. Nuff'said
I did it for myself.

I wonder, sometimes, that though we downplay any paranoia or submission to them, when you look at what so many Asian men put themselves through to just get accepted...maybe it's affecting us more than we think (or affecting me, anyway)...

Jeeesus. Doctors don't count. Money and women can't be enough of a motivator to want to endure that kinda torture.

Money is nice, women are nice.
I'm not a greedy person, but in this day and age, I will learn to be greedy. I want to be a seedy businessman that does anything for money. I will get there one day, regardless of whether or not my conscience lets me.
Right now, I do not know what I'm living for. I have finished college, but I don't think I'm ready for the graduate school thing yet. I'm preparing myself right now I suppose, I'm keeping low and trying to get my shit together so I can have a break out late 20's and early 30's. *yeah right*
But ultimately, I do want to have money, so that I can just up and go to Vegas for a wkd without having to plan months ahead just to get the "super saver discount" (i know rich people stay rich because they're somewhat frugal. but i want to be mega rich) hopefully my lottery numbers come in one day.
I started out this post trying to not say that i live for money and/or women, but i guess i do. I live for speed. But speed comes from money. *sigh* money and women, the root of all evil.

Sometime either during high school or college...I think *ALL* Asian guys begin to develop those instincts. Whether they're geeks or thugs or whatever -- and if they were thugs before, they're even hungrier to make money. A couple of ex-psychos that I know are now the hardest working guys I know, too.

We'll just go ahead and say women and money are a given.
I also live for cars and guns.
Cars, so I can get more respect from... women?
Guns, so I can get more respect from paper targets dangling on a wire 50 feet away.

Hey, women in general are better marks"men" than men.
Why? Men like to think they have an innate ability to handle firearms. At indoor shooting ranges I find that novice women usually listen attentively to instruction while the men stare at the weapons and shoot holes in the floor. (Anticipation of recoil... another discussion altogether.)
