>> i always thought one's birthday was supposed to be one of the more happier days of your life...but as for me ive come to dread my birthdays...something bad ALWAYS seems to happen...i remember one year a total of 5 people remembered my bday...i felt like complete and utter shit...another bday i got sick and threw up...and another the guy i thought for sure i was in love with got back with his ex...and last year 9/11 happened and i was too caught up in the sadness to even care about my sweet 16. *sigh* why me? my bday is coming up next week and scares the bajeebus outta me...does this happen to anyone else?

Hey sis me too. I am going through the EXACT same thing. I just don't really want to celebrate. Sigh my birthday is a little bit before your too. My friends basically were pulling teeth for me to celebrate.....

For seven of my last nine birthdays, I was always in the midst of finals. That's not exactly an opportune time to celebrate. Hell, for the most part people don't even remember 'less I happen to be there. I'm lucky if I get 5 birthday calls. No biggie though as I don't necessarily like all the attention. Beyond that, nothing terrible's really happened on or around my birthday. Well, three birthdays ago, the girl I was dating decided to take off early from the party, despite my pleas for her to stay longer. That kinda hurt.

My brothers' birthdays are in the fall. They start up with this "What are ya gonna get me for my birthday?" shit, and I just tell 'em "The same thing you got me for mine... and the year before that... and the year before that..." Then they get pissed.

my birthdays have never been that great, either. a lot of times they result in my wondering why the hell i was born in the first place. this past year was no exception, but it did start off on a good note: my friend called me at midnight to wish me a happy 17th. kinda went downhill from there. ah well...im at a point in my life where ive stopped caring.

It's been a while since I heard anything about it but I think you're more or less correct on this. If you had a reasonable belief that a person was of the age of consent (18), and that person is actually within four years of your own age, then you're in the clear. What this boils down to for us non teenagers is that 21 year olds can hook it up with 17 year olds so long as they had reason to believe that the kid was 18. If you have actual knowledge that the person's 17? Don't do it, or plead ignorance. But if you're over 21, don't mess with the youngens--that's statutory rape no matter how you cut it. 'least that's how I think it works here in Cali. Didn't someone say the age of consent in Hawaii is significantly lower as well?
