If you're good at geography, you can find your county on this map -
Or you can visit this website to find more info on your county and what people round your way call it.

Most people around here call it a "coke" (even if you're really talking about a Sprite, Pepsi, etc).

I don't drink that sugar water -- except for ginger beer, mmmmm, ginger beer.

Yeah, if you're in the midwest it's pop all the way. When we all went to Chino Hills, CA for a family reunion, my dad ordered a coke at a restaurant and asked if he could have a pop refill, and the girl was like, "ummm, sorry, I don't know what a pop is."
soda. i used to think 'pop' was an old school term for soda. it makes me think of 50's diners and poodle skirts, ala American Graffiti (the movie).

Really? Just the opposite for me, I think the term soda is more of a '50's throwback...like Richie Cunningham and Potsie going down to Arnold's for a phosphate and a strawberry soda, after being scared to death in health class by the film "Herpes..the Silent Killer".

okay, let's settle this once and for all! rent American Graffiti and pay attention to diner scenes. if they say 'soda' or 'pop'.
oh, what if they say 'soda pop'???

Soda is what I used to drink but it's been so long since I've tasted it and I don't miss it either.

Yeah, but pop is so...................LOL. The first time I heard it I was like wtf is pop (my friend had a cousin from Michigan who said that, it tripped me out).

That's exactly what I thought, lol.
Down south, everybody says coke. Like if you go to McDonald's or whatever they'll ask you "what type of coke do you want"? Pop still sounds funny to me.

I say pop to piss people off. Soda is so snobbish. And what the hell is a "coke," unless it comes in a red can that says "Coca-Cola" on it?
I don't drink that sugar water -- except for ginger beer, mmmmm, ginger beer.
What is ginger beer? Is that the same as gingerale? It would make sense since an ale is a kind of beer if we're talking about beer beer.
Yeah, I don't drink pop either, because that stuff is so toxic.

Coke doesn't just mean "coca-cola", it's every type of soda.

No wonder we kicked the Confederacy's asses!
What if it's clear, like a Sprite, or orange-flavored?
Hiroshi2

Like I said, if somebody asks you what type of coke you want, you say Sprite. And that's fine.
You wouldn't say "I want a Sprite coke". You'd just say "I want a Sprite".
What do you call a coke machine? A pop machine, soda machine? lol

ginger beer (http://www.tropicalhaven.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=75) is like ginger ale, except the taste of ginger is much more strong and spicy..

Oh yeah, people also say "drink" (well actually "draaaaaaaank") even though they're not talking about alcohol.
That's probably why not every county in Alabama says "coke".

The Civil War.
Maybe the white folks down here call it something different, I don't know. I don't hang around them too much.

I heard a lot of them whaaaht folks down south still call it the War of Northern Aggression. I wish we had a special Union flag (like a Confederate battle flag with the colors reversed or something) other than the flag of the United States that we could attach to the backs of our trucks.

When I visited my brother in Mississippi, they referred to the Confederates as "we" and the Union as "they" or "The Yanks".

What's wrong with "drink"?
Anyway, yeah a lot of southerners will talk about "those damn Yankees". I can't blame them for that. People up north say "pop", eat fried chicken with a knife and a fork and drink their tea hot and unsweetened *yuck* j/k
As for the Civil War............................whatever. It's over. Even though the state still celebrates Robert E. Lee Day. Even though I did see this one F-150 pickup in traffic the other day that had Confederate flags plastered all over with a tag that read "1 REB".

It makes no difference to me anyway since if I do decide to have a fizzy drink I always order Coke.
Oh, "fizzy drink" and "soft drink." There you go. Something new.

To be honest, I have no idea. I've come across fizzy drink and soft drink and I have no clue what the general term is.

I've only passed through North Carolina. If that's what they say, then I guess that's what they say. I'm just saying I've never heard it in Alabama.
Then again, "co-colas" does sound like something Petey Pablo would say
soda.
pop sounds like something from an old 50s tv show or something.
