This is back when I was around 5 or 6 I think...Pop took us to the mall, and we went into Toys R Us...I had probably been before, but I do remember all my senses going off at once, running around playing with every action figure and board game in sight.

I remember the first time I ever set foot in a toy store.

I was seven-eightish.

My brother almost forgot I was with him when he started heading out of the store. I didn't even notice he left the aisle I was in until I saw him heading back in screaming my name and wide-eyed.

It was Toys-R-Us.

Sweet Dreams on College Avenue in Berkeley. I used to ride my bike down the Dwight Way hill, often making a pit stop at the Wells Fargo on the corner because they had a little basket of free cookies.

20 years ago was only 1985.

I remember Toys'R'Us as far back as 1992 (when I was 5), so it's no surprise, really.

Nice place. Overpriced, like Mr. Mopps.

Grants or TG&Y for me.

Nice place. Overpriced. Yeah, but...when you're 7 years old and on a bike, you don't have much opportunity to shop around.

Another one, from my later childhood: Kiddie World on Stevens Creek, now defunct as the owners are making their money off a land-lease arrangement with a Chevy dealership.

Toys R Us. I'm sure I went nuts, but we ended up leaving with only educational workbooks for me to labor over after school and on weekends.

I can't remember. But FAO Schwartz looks interesting. Sadly, I'm too old to go shopping there for my own sake.

Ha!

I've gone back and bought SUV Hot Wheels for me and the kids.

I also like those miniture motorcycles and mountain bikes that look so realistic. Kids do not play with those, though. Can' truss 'em.
