View Full Version : I Am A Failure, Part Deux

SWK, I know how ya feel.
There's something very debilitating about this year -- very doesn't quite capture the extent, I think.
Gene Kan, peer-to-peer file sharing programmer extraordinaire, had on his resume, "Summary: Sad example of a human being. Specializing in failure." He committed suicide in June.
I've thought before, "If only we hadn't staked so much of our self-worth on our successes"...but it's too late! This is who we are; I'm not going to be able to play make-believe and fantasize unemployment as something...cool.
Blah. What is the answer?

If sometimes you feel yourself little, useless and depressed. Always remember that you were once the fastest and most victorious sperm in your group. J/k AB.
Have you considered going back to school you know MBA, masters etc etc.

Whether or not your unemployment can be considered cool, it's still a life experience and you're learning from it. Maybe you met some cool people because of it, maybe you learned some people will respect you and care about you even when you're at a low point.
I've actually found a bit of inspiration here. Tapestrybabe devotes so much to a craft that I've been thinking on how much that element has been missing from my life.
Just let it out. Or tell me to get stuffed if I sound too much like an afterschool special.

You know what, AB? Take a step back, and look at what you've created. YELLOWWORLD. If it weren't for you, none of us would be here supporting eachother in our problems, asking random questions, discussing issues, etc. None of it would happen whatsoever. Sure, there are other sites that revolve around being Asian, Asia-centric sites? But you know what? They're not the same as YW. I'm sure a lot of people here could tell you that. YW brings together so many different kinds of people, each of us with our own personal experiences. YW forums is one form of counseling. It's like group therapy. If it weren't for your creation, I'm sure a lot of us would be a little crazier than we already are/need to be. I know it's helped me.
I don't know where this post is going, but AB, don't be down. It doesn't help you get you anywhere.

AB, my thing wasn't about unemployment at all. it was something else, but i feel a little better about it now. not much - but i've felt worse before and i'll live.
and i think i've told you brother, as cheesy as it sounds, you need a goal in your life.

>> aww ab...i somewhat relate to how you're feeling...im sure all of us have been where you are at one point in our lives. if i based my self-worth on my success, id probably feel like im worth less than nothing. my life has been a series of countless screw-ups and losses and a minimal amount of winnings. alright, so i know advice on life from a person like me doesnt hold much credential...i mean youve got 10 years on me that ive yet to live [no im not trying to make you feel old]...theres a lot more you couldve learned...but you know having faith that things will get better helps a lot. im not saying find God or anything [although it may help for some]...just envision a perfect future, an ideal life...and once youve got that, work your way backwards, looking at how you might achieve that perfect future...like swk said...set a goal dawg...set a goal. alright...ive rambled enough...remember im just an iM away ^_^

To everyone: thanks for your thoughtful responses. I usually don't like to post about this subject, but occasionally a hiccup will escape.
Bunboy -- I've thought about it, loathed it, if anything, I guess. I've always felt that that was the next natural step...but I never wanted to go because I was forced to.
HH -- I've definitely met some cool people because of this! The people I've come into contact with through YW have definitely been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dismal year. But about learning from this experience -- bah! I'm tired of lessons.
grasshoppa -- thanks:) It's very nice of you to say those things, but one thing I'm proud of about yw is that it's definitely more than one person. I may have rented out space for the party, but you guys are definitely the life:)
SWK -- I didn't mean this thread to be about unemployment in particular, but about good ol' failure in general, I guess.
karizma -- I do believe in God...and I think he's trying to kick my ass:)

It's all good AB. Everyone and I do mean everyone hits bumps and bruises in the road. This is gonna sound moist, but if you overcome them, you'll be a better person.
I'll keep an eye out for you in the computer field or journalism field. Too bad you're not Chinese, I could've hooked you up with my uncle, if you're interested in the journalism route. But if you are, let me know, he might have some connections in the Korean newspapers <shrug>.

what skills/experience do you have?
why do you not like women?

Hey AB. I totally know how you were feeling. I been feeling like that for quite a while. It been really hard to get back on your feet and feel that you have accomplished something but as most people said you created YW where all these great people can talk and discuss these topics in a great setting and you brought in different preceptive for us to see. AB you have achieved a lot and i know you will achieved more! :)

Sorry, forgot to reply to your post...
You're asking why I don't like women?
I think your post would have been funnier if it had been about something else as spontaneous and arbitrary...but had a sliver of truth to it. Then again, it might be kind of funny to surprise Michael Jordan with, "Why don't you like basketball?"...in a kind of junior-high sorta way.

AB: hey, like i've said before, yw is quite a creation. u should really be proud of what u've done. it looks really nice, at least in my uninformed, non-technical opinion.
as for the unemployment thing, all i can say is sometimes when things are down for a long time, all u can think and what u must think is that things can't get much worse. they can only get *better*. just u wait and see.
and no, the man up there has better things to do with His time than to take revenge on you. u know He has other things to tend to, such as strife in the middle east, infanticide the world over, poverty, and unending death.
you've got to have hope. or at least believe in the concept of hope. it's the font of humanity to borrow a trite aphorism. in plain english, if u stop hoping you give up and can become nothing better than what you expect to fail in.
