I was an Asian Am major, all jobs are outside my major. I've been working for two years and my feeling is it's all about who you know and experience. I don't think a major has much to do with performance. Anyone can fill the right bubble on a scantron, but it won't teach you have to trouble shoot and deal with people. I've worked with people in my job that have master's degree's in business and am currently in the same position as they are and perform my job without a problem. it's up to the individual, however, I don't think what your major is a that big a deal. as long as you got a degree.

I was a medical Anthropology major specializing in brain function.

I now work in fashion and music.

I focused on Accounting and Business Administration in College. I'm a Computer Programmer now and it's cool.

While I was in school, I had a part time audit job. I hated the work, but I tried telling myself that this was what I wanted to do. So my last year in school, I decided to go onto technology, and ended up where I am now.

i never had a job that had nothing to do w/ my field of study (psych/bio). during undergrad, we had mandatory co-ops which enabled us to work at a paying (most of the time) job related to our major. i'm glad i had this opportunity, because i was able to narrow my focus (based on reallife experience, compared to classroom learning) on what i eventually wanted to do with my degree.

I majored in international business. Now I'm in the Army. I guess I'm using the international part.

well, I sold furniture for 4 months after graduation, does that count?

actually I'm also hoping to move away from the career track that was defined by my major.

for some majors, it's probably easier than others to find a job outside of it. Harder for stuff with a more pre-vocational or pre-professional bent.

true and not true, it IS up to the individual, but having a degree ? I don't have a degree and i'm doing better than alot of people i know with degrees...I'm a graphic designer and in many IT fields along with design fields, the degree doesn't mean squat if you don't have the porfolio or correct skills. A degree is important in representing a level of education, but is doesn't represent skills or experience. Many times esp in my field it is getting the correct training or skills, since employers want to you start producing as fast as you can. Also I've found going to school for particluar skills is invaluable because they can transfer over to many different fields, whereas formal education can lock you down, though is it neccessary for certain jobs where the education is the skill requirement.

Just wanted to keep both sides shown.
