View Full Version : Sleep Deprived?

As I'm sitting here in front of my computer at 3:45am-- I can hear crickets chirping outside-- I wonder if I'm really sleep deprived? I'm wide awake after 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep (10pm-3am). Lately, I've been sleeping for an average of 6 hours without an alarm waking me up. I guess that's not as bad as some people I know. So, how much sleep do you get on average? I've managed to go only a day and a half without sleeping during finals week last year. How long have you managed to stay awake? It's grueling, isn't it? =)

you can read about something interesting like the discrimination of the burakumin people in japan. (http://www.imadr.org/tokyo/ishikawareport.html)

i dont get a lot of sleep, either. i get about 4-5 hours a night. before i used to be able to handle it really well and could make it through the day bright eyed and bushy tailed -- my energy never flagged. starting last year my poor sleeping habits started catching up to me and now im always tired. ive actually started to use caffeine pills to make it through the day.

i can sleep for pretty much any amount of time. for example, tonight i slept from about 2 am until all the 5.30 fire alarms in the dorm, and I don't feel tired at all. basically, I will sleep until I wake up. If I go to sleep at 1am, miss my 8am alarm in the morning I have been known to sleep until the late afternoon without rolling over.

during school i normally get anywhere from 2-6 hrs. of sleep. the longest i've ever stayed up was three days.
Last Thursday night, before I flew up to Vegas, I got all of three hours of sleep. Friday night I got 4-5 hours. Saturday night, after Heaven and Hell (Pimp 'n Ho pre-party at the Hard Rock), another 4 hours. Sunday night, after coming back to the hotel room from Pimp 'n Ho, I got all of three hours. Monday night, I had to go to work to pick up some shit for court the next day, four hours. Tuesday-Thursday night, four to five hours per night... Slowly but surely, I'm again learning how to function off of not too much sleep. Nevertheless, I've been looking forward to this weekend since I woke up Tuesday morning. Finally, I can catch some real Zs! I hope to grab at least 8 hours tonight... Anybody call me before 1pm and I'll kick your ass...

Three days in a row? Wow, you'd be good for Ibiza!
From Saturday night to Monday afternoon, you can be clubbing for over 40 hours non-stop (except to go from one club to the next)
Start at Pacha (or any other club, but they might close earlier), go til closing at 8 am, then go to Space for its 22 hour party, then go to DC-10, which goes until at least 4 pm Monday
During other days, after-parties at Space go til 5 pm. After that, although no clubs (to my knowledge) are open, you can keep dancing at the Bora Bora beach bar, which is walking distance away from Space. And then at midnight, head back out to the clubs. Afterwards, go to Space, and then start the cycle all over again...
Save up and see if you can do it!
Or for starters, try the Winter Music Conference in Miami in March - I've heard about that being 5 days of non-stop partying, with many of the world's best DJ's cranking out the tunes. Maybe it's like Ibiza in the US for a week.

hmm i dunno... 3 days is only for school. i don't know if i have enough stimulants to go clubbing for 3 straight days... :D
going to the WMC... now that would be something. not only do you get to hear the best dj's in the world, but you can also hear about all the new stuff that's being worked on by all those industry ppl.

It's the quality, not the quantity, that matters
You can find plenty of "assistance" on the streets there :D

4 days or so. I dunno. I don't really need sleep that bad. I usually just get 5 hours of sleep a night. After I wash my face or shower or something, I'm ready to bounce off the walls. I have natural caffeine running through my veins 24/7. And to top that off, I have unlimited adrenaline, and I have constant adrenaline rushes. I can also time my own adrenaline rushes. I'm so cool I wish my lips could reach my ass. Yes.

I don't have a circadian rhythm anymore.
I remember going through 2-3 days w/o sleep every other week. Now, I can sleep on cue, no matter what time. I have been trained well!

LOL...
I learned to do that last year... I could fall asleep whenever my body made contact with my bed, of course, that doesn't MEAN I actually got sleep due to my stupid bitchy ass white crazy spoiled bratty roommate... I shoudl have just rubbed the cadavar juices all over her face...ohh...( oh, you can feel the love oozzzing!) I've always had sleeping issues... my circadian rhythm "might" be messed up to begin with or something... mm joy
so far, so good... but in a week or so, I'll be pullin nighters and than wake up at 6am to get ready for surgical observation...yeah! i get to sit in in surgeries... exciting.

wow i did not know that an anatomy artist has to go through so much. No wonder them damn textbooks cost me an arm and a leg <figuratively>.
So wait you have to sit in on a neurosurgery to get accurate references of the brain? Oh boy, neurosurgery is one of the looooongest surgical procedures.

well....it really depends on projects, homework...tests...
sometimes i get zilltz...others, few hours...
than on a rare occation i get 7 plus hours...oh joy!
one of the reason I dont get enough sleep is my amazing ability to get distracted, right now, I should be studying for my changing family sociology and physiology and anatomy(yep...my school calles it physiology and anat. not anat. and phys...) quiz/test.... but no I'm here instead... gotta love attention deficity brain

I used to have severe insomnia. For about 10 years I could only get to sleep just before dawn or other nights not at all. My basic pattern was stress out until 2-4 a.m. and sleep until about 6-7:30 for about 2 weeks straight. Then I would get so sleep deprived I would get 1-2 nights sleep and then I would loop back to the 2 weeks of non-sleep.
I was just about to go to enter an insomnia program when I picked up a book written by a guy who cured his own insomnia. It was easy to use info and I've been getting pretty good sleep since then.

Eh? How did you cure it? I can sleep like a log once I loose consciousness but it takes me about 30 min to fall asleep on average. It used to be 1-2 hours (besides the time I was working and going to school both full time).

The book had a list of suggestions and then prioritized the suggestions.
1. Always wake up early. Even if you didn't get any sleep. Set your alarm for the same time every morning and get your rear out of bed. Same on weekends.
2. Cut down on caffeine or at least limit it to early morning.
3. Have a schedule at night or ritual unwinding time before you go to bed. This could involve relaxation techniques but doesn't have to. You could have a 30 -45 min 'getting ready for bed' system.
4. Exercise
5. Avoid violent TV or video games before bedtime
I actually suffered from severe nightmares also so I had to deprogram myself from associating sleep = fear. That was the toughest part. The rest is pretty mechanical.
