The newly established Mayors Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) Director will be housed in the Mayors Intergovernmental Relations Division. The director will ensure that MOIA operates in an advocacy and advisory capacity to assess and integrate immigrant stakeholders (a stakeholder is defined as any individual who lives, works or owns property in the City of Los Angeles, regardless of place of birth or immigration status) into the daily mainstream of city life.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of Bachelors Degree; and
Three years experience in the development of Immigration Policy;
Ability to work with leadership from a variety of sectors including business, labor, government, community and education.
Knowledge of the local, state, and federal legislative process
Experience in recruitment and leadership development of committee members
Strong strategic planning and stakeholder management skills;
Demonstrated experience in developing policy with a committee or board;
Strong communication and verbal skills, in particular written communication and verbal presentation.
DUTIES:
Facilitates strategic leadership in immigrant communities;
Develops long-range plans; guides the creation of public policy and the exercise of oversight with respect to the Collaborative efforts of City Departments;
Conduct a needs assessment study within the City
Promotes and negotiates strategic partnerships to increase the coordination of local direct service providers;
Manages relationships with key stakeholders related to all immigration activities in Los Angeles including City elected officials and staff, Federal agencies, community based organizations and educational institutions;
Advocates on behalf of immigrant stakeholders on immigration issues.
