Is this pretty much a young boy thing? Actually, back then. (Now days dudes in beatup Hondas deliver papers.)

My main source of bubblegum and Hotwheels money was delivering the "Independent Journal". Marin County, CA's own paper, and probably the worse newspaper for an area that size.

I had at least three different routes. The first was a piece of shit route that spanned at least five miles. The best was closest to home.

Did it all on Schwinn BMX bike with the tough wheels (the plastic rims without the metal spokes).

The only time I ever heard of kids having paper routes was in books. For an obvious reason: anyone who's gonna send his kid biking around Oakland in the dark hours of the morning deserves to be shot.

Only place this kind of thing is practical anymore is some gated suburban community, where the kids don't need the money in the first place, and the residents sure as hell wouldn't want outside kids doing it for them.

Actually, I think I've seen kids delivering them by foot in the Sunset or Richmond district, recently.
