View Full Version : Short, Medium, or Long Hair?

Many guys I meet find long hair more flattering on a woman than short hair. What makes you prefer one length over another? Do you think many women have long hair because it's socially more appealing to men? If you have long hair, are you afraid of cutting it short because men won't find you as appealing? For those of you who are proud of having short hair, has anyone told you should grow it out instead? Anyone out there strutt'n their shoulder length hair like me? =P

Mine's about shoulder length. I had long hair, I had short hair, and I like the length it's at right now. Long hair looked too messy at times, short hair was kind of boring cuz you can't really do anything different with it, and the length I have right now is nice 'cuz it doesnt get in my way as much, but I can still pull it up and away when I wanna do something.

And to me, I don't really care if men like my hair. LOL, as long as it's soft and shiny and smooth, I have found that men don't seem to mind. They just wanna touch it anway.

i have long hair thats layered all around. ive done the short thing and the medium shoulder length styles but i like long hair better because i can do more with it -- tying it up, braids, curls, etc. of course, most of the time i dont bother -- just step out of the shower, comb it while its wet and im out the door. i like its length cuz it draws attention away from my face. shorter styles tend to keep the focus on ur facial features.

i have a thing for girls with short hair, short like a guy's hair, and with an elvish look. for a while i thought that this was because i fell in love with faye in chungking express. but now i think back and i realize that my first crush back in 3rd grade had short hair with an elvish look.

My hair has always been longer (around armpit-length at its shortest like now). I think it's because I'm shy and I like to hide behind it! (rather than having anything to do with boys' preferences)

Like princess, I prefer whatever length requires the least maintenance/styling. Also, I'm not big on change, and have pretty much *always* had the same hair (at least since 8th grade - though I have pictures of me in 3rd grade with hair similar to my current hair :P).

Most of my life I've had long hair. Right now I have layers and I'm loving the hell out of it. I think my hair's one of my best features. And it's cool too. Sometimes my friends gang up on me and mess up my hair for 5 minutes. When they're done, I lift my head, shake it around a little, and it sets back into place. Do I have anime hair or what?

i really really really (times ten) like short hair. i think it makes a girl look really elegant.

but for about half of my life, i have kept my hair long just because guys around me have asked me to. lame, huh? <_<

I had a bob! I loved it! Right now, I'm going through the pin-striped straight hair look with shoulder length hair. It's working great for me too.

short hair, like how ashley judd had it, is quite nice.

Throughout middle school I had short hair. The shortest it got was up to my ears. Ever since high school though, I've let it grow out a little bit. Amidst all my boyishness, it made me feel girlier, I think.

Kasia- ever since you changed your avatar, I kinda laugh seeing it. That face looks nothing like yours! Yours is so much prettier. :P

I'm keeping my hair long at least until I finish taking senior portraits. And well, as long as my hair is long during prom time, all's good.

hehe.. i just got finished watching Chungking Express-- and i must say.. it was a very entertaining film. I enjoyed it A LOT. I plan on buying Fallen Angels next. But anyways, when it comes to Faye Wong.. i think she is very beautiful and elegant looking female.... but I admit.. i think i gotta agree with kasia on this... her particular short hair style in the movie... wasnt really all that...

faye looks different now. that movie came out in 1994. fallen angels has a much darker and serious mood. but i think the message is alot more powerful.

Do any of you think people with short hair have more confidence than women with long hair? Or vice versa?

until i turned 24, i wore long layered hair (down to my elbows). i hid behind my hair and played the roles requested of me. when i found my voice, i cut all my hair off (chungking express: faye wong). for the past 4 years, i've worn it at about that length, a little longer and spiked out - (x-men: wolverine) and at a chin length bob (powerpuff girls: buttercup). i really don't feel that i look like an alien, but maybe i do and that would explain why men are afraid of me!

since my great hair emancipation, whenever i am feeling oppressed, repressed or otherwise weak, i cut my hair. i'm sure it's pyschological but when i do, i get my confidence back. sort of a reverse-samson.

i am in the process of growing out the layers to wear the uma thurman in pulp fiction bob. but i'm getting really annoyed with the growing-out process. i'm used to styling it and i just can't DO anything with it right now. i'm on the verge of going to one of those k-town beauty shops & telling them to perm it up into an afro so i can pretend to be a k-pop star :P

sorry about the alien comment; i was referring more to just faye and shirley kwan.

but i would like to ask: what is it about cutting your hair short that empowers you?

I have to say that I felt a heck of a lot more confident when I had no hair. I think it has to do with the Putting the Fear of Asian Male into Them (http://forums.yellowworld.org/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=176&hl=&s=19a73bbe0ee4736f53a59f2c303822a9) effect. But that's kinda stupid. Or maybe it's 'cause whenever I've been bald, I've been in a supportive relationship, and ever since I grew hair, my love life's been in the shitter.=P Sorry to interrupt...

Alex

...Fallen Angels with Michelle Reis *drool*

short hair is great if your face (the shape and its appeal) can get away with it. it's similar to men with shaved heads, some have the shape for a close shave or a bald head, but some men do not... it just looks weird. and some men have no choice in the matter.

basically, really attractive people can get away with no hair, short hair, medium length hair, long hair, and even f*cked up hair. think models and marketing.

Guys I've talked to prefer long hair over short hair because it's more feminine.

That's nothing but BS! What should matter most is the inside beauty and not the outside beauty. I had very long hair before. ( It was past my waist ) Now it's not even past my chin. The reason is that I finally came to senses and realized that I should do what I please and not let other people make the choices for me.

By george, I'm proud to have it chopped of and I'm loving every minute of it!

well, you don't have to completely shave. cutting it all cut a few millimeters is a pretty good effect. besides, my hair and most asians hair is really thick and straight and so when its long it goes all over the place

That's true, close shave is one thing, I've gone chrome dome before, like with a gilette and I looked like an asian Mr.Clean. Good thing my hair grows back fast.

I personally like short hair and long hair... Like Jessica Alba or Racheal Leigh Cook when they both had their short hair, long hair periods. *drools*

But if it's too short or too long, I have a problem with it. I dunno... I always stress that any girl that I'm interested in shouldn't have hair shorter than mine. Or hair that goes past the waist. That'd freak me out.

But these are all superficial. Personality is what matters. (to please the ladies of course)
