ABOUT THE ACTRESS At 35 (yes, that's 3-5), Hu is best known as ''The Scorpion King'''s sexy sorceress. She cut her teeth on TV's ''Martial Law,'' ''Nash Bridges,'' and ''Sunset Beach,'' and next stars in the Jet Li-DMX pic ''Cradle 2 the Grave'' (spring 2003).

IN THE COMICS Hu says she plays Anne Reynolds, Reverend Stryker's human henchwoman in the ''X-Men'' graphic novel ''God Loves, Man Kills.'' Twentieth Century Fox, however, released a statement listing Hu as Yuriko Oriyama, better known as the comic book's Lady Deathstrike. This feared mutant is a prominent ''X''-villain and archenemy of Wolverine, whom she believes responsible for her father's death.

IN THE MOVIE Hu will be closely tied to Stryker. And she promises to put her martial arts background to good use in her action sequences. ''I've been doing karate for a couple of years now and I have a black belt,'' Hu says. ''It sounds a lot more impressive than it is. All it really means is that my teacher likes me.''

HER ''X''-PERIENCE She's a comic geek...sort of. ''I was more of an 'Archie' and 'Richie Rich' girl,'' claims the admitted ''X-Men'' comics virgin.

HOW HU GOT THE PART ''I don't know how I got it,'' says the actress, whose audition required her to read ''only five or six lines. Maybe they figured I'd just look good in the suit.''

Wow, impressive for Hu. Hope she doesn't sell out and go dating some white guy or I'll just go ape shit with her too. Asian actresses have a responsibility to the ppl they represent not to sell out in any way possible. If she is as good an actress as we think she is she'll request Asian American male actors instead of keeping quiet and riding the Asian fever bandwagon until it collapses. Now what's this shit with Jet Li and DMX? As if Jet Li needs any black guy to co star with him. Those whites always have to pair up a Chinaman with a white guy or black guy. If Saiko, AngelNympho, and Chris don't like it maybe they can go date the same guy and smell each other off.

i think you don't really understand what limited choices asian actors and actresses have. yes that applies to even the famous ones. in case you haven't noticed, Kelly is just small potatoes compared to the rest of the cast of X-Men 2, which includes 2 Oscar winners (and Kelly is definitely not one of them). they are probably not going to honor any requests that Kelly makes for inclusion of more Asian actors and actresses. if she is unhappy with whoever they may pair her up with, there are plenty of other Asian actresses who are not so lucky as Kelly as to not have to pay their bills by waiting tables. in other words, the movie will certainly not fail without Kelly Hu.

DMX only had a small role in Kiss of the Dragon, if that's what you're referring to. And he go his ass kicked by Jet. Top billing still went to Jet Li. Anyways, I like DMX's jointz.

I saw the Daredevil preview and Elektra is played by Jennifer Garner (ZZY or Michelle Yeoh would've been a great choice) from Alias
and KingPin is played by Michael Clarke Duncan. <sigh> it got messed up bad> :angry:

actually to the best of my knowledge, in the comics, elektra is greek. i think she's the daughter of a greek ambassador who ends up getting killed. i'm not a daredevil fan so i'm not 100% sure. and i've actually stopped buying comics for a couple of years now.

at first when i found out that michael clarke duncan was going to play kingpin, i was thinking, "WTF???". but after thinking about it for a few minutes, i realized that duncan would probably make a great kingpin. who else has the necessary bulk to portray kingpin? i mean i guess they could get an unknown white guy who does have the bulk. but thinking about kingpin's character in the comic, his origin doesn't necessitate that he be white. and besides, movie adaptations have been taking alot of liberty with changing storylines anyway.

Yes, yes, yes. If you want an X-Men, Wolverine or Lady Deathstrike buddy to talk to, it's most likely going to be me. Been reading Marvel since 5 years old. Used to have the first appearance of Wolverine, Hulk #161 if I remember correctly.

But I'm going to poo-poo the choice of Kelly Hu. She's mixed and Chinese. I don't see what's so hard about putting a fully Asian actress in the role. Plus, I'm not holding out hope that character doesn't get any more treatment than the standard Deadly Asian Flower/Oriental Sex-Kitten Assassin. I hope I am pleasantly surprised. <_<

oh man i'm going to have to go into geek override here. i don't really care whether or not kelly hu is full asian (besides, she could easily pass for it), and i don't care if the portrayal is deadly asian flower. honestly i'm just excited that they'll have her in the movie because she's one of my favorite villains, and add to the fact that kelly hu is oh so babelicious, i think i'm ready to go into geek orgy mode. but i do hope that at the end she gets all cyborgly grotesque and stuff because that's what's so cool about Lady Deathstrike. they've got to give her those extended fingers of death too, otherwise i'm going to ask for my refund.

I have a few complaints about x-men, but i won't go into it that much, mainly concerning characters and storyline. It was an all-around good movie... but whatever happened to Angel and Beast? they were original X-men!!! dOh. arggghh.

well if they must go with the original x-men, they wouldn't have had wolverine, rogue, and storm as major characters in the movie. i think that would definitely have been a loss. personally i wanted to see colossus in the first movie.

Oh I know Kelly Hu is gorgeous and I think she's way cool. But I'm a Deathstrike fan from back in the day and that bit of Japanese blood I have is working my pride overtime. Gotta represent. Or some slang I'm not really cool enough to know.

I think those character's powers are harder to do on film. Okay, maybe not Kurt's but Bobby's could be tough.
