Is it just me or have not one Asian board I've been to has had a discussion about non-Asian music? So what music do you listen to? I listen to punk, all kinds of rock, alternative, techno, and metal. Right now I'm hooked on the Linkin Park: Reanimation cd.

hehe.... i think i'm the only one here that mostly listens to Korean music now a dayz. But when i do listen to American music... i like classic rock... music that my parents grew up listening to.. like pink floyd, the who, the beatles and all them... and than i guess i like 80's music... like Michael Jackson, the Bangles, Boy George and the Culture Club, Survivor, etc... And ummm.. i like Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow... and blah, blah, blah... and my most recent American CD's that i just bought were... Bruce Springsteen--the Rising... and Pink- Mizunderstood...

Ever since my stereo got stolen, I think I've been bitter (for no reason) about music. But when I'm not being an irrational freak about things, I love U2, Radiohead...if I'm listening to trance (which I haven't been lately), PVD, Sandra Collins, Sasha...underground hip hop is also pretty amazing. Have you guys ever listened to Jurassic Five? Check 'em out.

Asian Dub Foundation is excellent and they've been around for a while. They're from the UK and they're Indian (to the best of my knowledge). here's their website (www.asiandubfoundation.com) (http://www.asiandubfoundation.com/). as you may or may not know, there's a large south asian population in the UK. over there, mainstream thinking use the term "asian" to refer more to south asians rather than east asians as opposed to how it is in the US and canada. there have been some excellent indian techno that came out of the UK. can't name any names at the moment except for Asian Dub Foundation though.

My taste varies, but in high school was waaayy into the first generation punk and goth music. Loved ska and '80s new wave, even the silly stuff. Hated the hair band scene back then (Warrant's Cherry Pie to me signaled the death knell to rock integrity) but love it know that I've come to recognize it's silliness as well. Loved the old school rap, way back when it was still fun -- can't stand gangta rap, though it's got some pretty cool beats. I still dance to industrial music -- you don't need any skills so that makes it easy for me. I never got into grunge -- that scene was MTV/hollywood fueled hype, too easy for my cynical college-aged self to see through. And I don't care too much for today's faux-angsty hiphop-punkrock. Ian Curtis had angst. Fred Durst? = no angst.

I've bought a several CDs in the past year or so. The three that stand out as my favorites:

Tricky, blowback
The Gorillaz
Si*Se

Do you have Hell is around the Corner? I love that one.

btw buoywonder, I had this idea you were a teenager. Guess I was wrong. Gimme some new industrial suggestions. The last downloading binge I went on was for soundtracks. Queen of the Damned, Blade 2 and Resident Evil. Only a couple were good like Name of the Game - Crystal Method and Cowboy - Eve w/Moby. Thought I would like the Wayne Static or other Static X songs, but I thought they sucked. No Coal Chamber or Slip Knot though. Don't like them either.

Nope, don't have that one, I'll check it out. I'm so way behind music right now. I mean, I'm still listening to the Ministry, Front 242, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Sisters of Mercy, et al. Don't really care for the Crystal Method or Slip Knot much. Chumbawumba before that Tubthumping or whatever song was a pretty good punk band -- check out Whatever Happened to Mary from the Stigmata coundtrack.

And everybody thinks I'm a teenager. Even the people who know me. Hell, most people mistake my brother who's four years younger to be my older brother.

But I'll bet the difference in our age comes down to just a few weeks.

I listen to two kinds if music... country and western ;) I own all 3 Dixie Chicks CDs (one's in my car's CD player and there's a pic of me in the fans section of their website). I also have burned CD of all country and western music in the car two. In fact the first 2 Cds I bought were Lonestar and Faith Hill.

I also like to listen to 80s and 90s pop... old madonna and billy joel, flock if segulls, spandau ballet, PM Dawn, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Sting, and Fleetwood Mac to name a few. 90s would BNL, Goo Goo Dolls, Areosmith, 3rd Eye Blind, INXS...

I listen to hip-hop (I like underground a lot), some R&B, I like jazz, I like heavy metal (especially when I'm pissed) but my favorite type of music is alternative/light rock. I love the way acoustic guitars sound, I wish I knew how to play one. Acoustic songs are the best (songs like Name, the 1st hit from the Goo Goo Dolls come to mind).

BTW, the Goo Goo Dolls are my all time favorite band.

Why wish? If you don't already own an acoustic then go buy one or steal one if you have to (just kidding). There are tons of books out there. Don't like books? Then try the instructional videos or the computer programs. But to REALLY learn to play, hook up with local musicians that play your kind of music and go to jam sessions as often as you can, you'll learn faster than trying to figure things out from a book......btw, you don't necessarily have to read music to play a guitar. B)
