Yellow M&M's

Like an email I sent to Asianweek about how I didn't use to notice the fact that the PG&E guy was Asian and his theme about turning off the lights to save money,etc...until I saw the second commerical where his fat Asian son ran into granpa's place and turned off everything including the radio, I never thought anything about M&M's until recently when I saw a Godzilla parody featuring yes u guessed it Yellow M&M, but unlike the dopey way he normally is, this time he's bigger than the city and angrily searching for some purple M&M's like angry Asians angrily searching for money "ching chong chinaman sitting on a fence trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents." Am I stupid crazy or is it coincidence? I mean out of all the other color for the Godzilla parody why pick yellow? Wouldn't a blue one be more similar to Godzilla? A red one would also make sense since he's so aggressively smart in other commercials. Here's yellow's info:

Age: Unknown. But he is in touch with his inner child.
Weight: Average for a peanut with milk chocolate padding.
Likes: Pretty ladies and fluffy things.
Best Friend: Red, because he seems to know a lot.
Best Attribute: Sees the good in everything.

I understand where wylin is coming from, it does seem like kind of a stretch but boycott... you do have me scratching my head on this one. Never noticed the yellow M&M/Godzilla connection.

Yes Johnny we joke around in the beginning but it does not give you a right to continue with it. Let me put you in a situation. If the situation was reverse. The whole planet was gay and you were the minority. If I keep on calling you the hetero one. How would you feel if I said I shake hands with you and then wash my hands because you were hetero. Walk a mile in my shoes and see if you wanted to be treated the way if I was in your shoes. Just a thought.

Chasuibaoboy, thank you. At least somebody's relaxed enough to see it like I did. I was only challenging the idea that yellow was given dopey and angry roles as a M&M. Unlike Bananas that are yellow by nature, and Traffice Lights that are yellow for a purpose what is the yellow M&M's purpose for being yellow in relation to his dopeyness and recent godzilla like aggression? Boycott I know that was a callous statement on my end and I rescinded it and I apologized for it. It as emotional statement on my end. But if you do noticed johnny statements he still have yet to understand from my standpoint. I just rather just ignored his statement. I at least willing to step up to the plate and admit my statement. he has yet.

I just have to say when I saw the commercial. I thought of your post. Yeah I can see where you coming from, in regards to the commercial. But in my opinion, I don't think that commercial was in anyway intended to make fun of or attack asians. I saw the commercial twice. First time was during a Yankee game on TV, like most of those M&M commercials I just laughed. But when I saw it again today, after reading your posts, I can understand your opinion and your point of view. And how some can perceive it in that manner.

But I think it is, what it is, a commercial with no malice towards Asians.
I'll give props where props is due. You did raise my awareness up a level, like in regards to that commercial. You also bring up some very valid and substantial topics up for discussion(like A&F). But I just feel your being a bit sensitive. I mean just because sometimes something is yellow like in a commercial or whatever, doesn't mean it is meant to symbolize or represent Asian people.

as an american, boycott has an inherant right to complain about this country in order to advocate progress in a direction that he thinks is for the better. after all, complaining is how things progress in this country. even the forefathers recognized this when they came up with the first amendment.

Yes, productive critisism is good. Sadly, a lot of his ranting isn't so productive. Changing the colour of an m&m isn't going to make America better. That's just diving into every single detail in every single thing, looking for anything that seemingly discriminates against Asians. I'm sure it's alright for him to post his thoughts and opinions. It's just that it's irritating and some of us don't agree.

that is fine. this may or may not apply to boycott individually, but have you considered that people complain about this country because they love it and wouldn't want to leave? perhaps they recognize its imperfection and wants it to improve. if they cannot stand the way things are, they wouldn't bother complaining at all. as ridiculous as some of boycott's views may seem to you, it is kind of unfair to tell him to leave the country.

Hey hey hey.. nobody was TELLING anybody to leave. If he sincerely wants to better our nation, then fine, so be it. But to tell you the truth, I think his views are pretty un-American.

boycott, this was my first post. i was somewhat defending you. then i was somewhat defending Saiko and Chris. rather than pick one over the other, i could see more than one side.

seriously, it's like a downward spiral when you let everybody post whatever the hell they want. there are other sites which i go to where i diss people and completely act the fool, but YW is not one of them. i come here because i like the way things have been so far. civil conversations with substance (well most of the time :) ).

seriously, it's like a downward spiral when you let everybody post whatever the hell they want. there are other sites which i go to where i diss people and completely act the fool, but YW is not one of them. i come here because i like the way things have been so far. civil conversations with substance (well most of the time :) ).
hehehe you know this is the EXACT opposite for me. I never lost my temper until I came to YW. But then again I won't let a few bad apples spoil the great people I have gotten to talk so far :)

iknow what you mean. I was thinking in real life I would have *yelled* the shit out of the stuff people say in person. If someone was haraness any of you i would come to your defense in a heart beat.

Chris, I apologize for this thread + johnny's comments. My cable modem was disconnected for a better part of today -- and look what I missed!! I'm glad though that you're being such a good sport about it. While I appreciate johnny's input at yellowworld.org, his hating on you is certainly not representative of the overwhelming majority of the members.

I want to also extend this apology to angel_nympho, for having to deal with the totally unnecessary hating.
