How do you feel when someone makes fun of non-asian people? For example, lets say your asian/white and here I am making fun of white people, how would you feel? What if your non-asian side was another minority lets say Black, would you take offense of me joking around and making comments about Black people?

But with all that is said and done, when it comes down to it, i don't hold any grudges with the person i'm interacting with (no matter what race). So i think it's very tricky to judge who's trying to make fun of the race and who's actually just cracking un-pc jokes. I think a good indicator of the latter is when the person cracks jokes on his own race or culture, and doesn't take the whole AF/WM thing too seriously.
but if the person is actually racist to a group of people, and continually single them out, then i'd have a problem with him/her
oh wait i just realized this thread's in the hapa forum, oops

I got a feeling when your other is a minority like asian/black, asian/hispanic, asian/native american, etc... you take the other side pretty seriously.

If they're joking around, then eh, I make white jokes too. As for black jokes, I think it's very rarely acceptable to make those kinds of jokes. It's kind of a tough call either way, since there's factors like how comfortable you are with the person making the jokes, and what kind of jokes they're making. If they're making a joke off of stereotypes, then I could probably laugh at that, but if it's a joke that IS a stereotype and they're trying to infer that stereotype unto me, then I probably wouldn't like that very much.

that's an excellent point that i forgot to mention as an indicator of whether the person is actually racist or not.

depends, I guess. I really don't like people targeting their ridicule and insult at me for the mere condition of being part white. It's annoying and gets old fast.

I'm not too sensitive on racial issues, despite the crap that people have given me about my race- though I've found that white people tend to make cracks about my black AND asian sides............
My "White (mostly)" side of the family is also the root for a lot of our jokes. Then again, it's not their fault they're really low class except for my Dad and uncle, who both got graduate degrees in law and a phd in a liberal arts field, respectively.
I personally don't care if anyone makes a joke about White people. Even if they tease my 30% Scottish ancestry (it gets so corny).
But you're right. If anyone says anything bad about Native Americans (I'm 20%) I'll be really pissed off at them. I agree that since the country has a White majority, most White people are pretty much desensitized to racism towards them. They haven't experienced what it's like to be a minority, so they really won't get fired up about jokes on them by other races as much as we will.

It's important to keep in mind that not every Asian making a remark about whites is racist but rather a remark on majority/minority issues. Like many things, depends. I can take some criticisms or barbs, I think they would only get to me if the person dishing it out is someone whose opinion I value. As a general rule though, I don't have to take a lot of crap about anything unless it's from an elder I know and I'm not exactly young.
Dunno, this is coming from a person who Asians usually complain about idiot Americans (read: whites) to. They tend to forget I very much racially resemble the people they complain about.

I get offended either way, if theyer jokeing and I know them well I will say something about their face/weight. but I will let it slide. of theyer talking about Chinese people like "hahah ching chong" and pulling their eyes, Ill make them look "mongoloid" permanently if you know how I mean. if they are like making fun of Arabic or w/e I make fun of them (usually they are italians or germans) and their language. if they make fun of islanders I make fun of them.

It only hurts when coming from a Korean, and with the intent of making me feel bad.

Usually though if it's just making fun of white people that doesn't bother me at all. It's really only when people talk about beating up white people or killing white people where it starts to bother me.
Like there was this one time when I was in highschool and they were showing this video about racism.. and there was this one clip of this black dude who goes "I want to see the extermination of the entire white race." And a group Asian kids all stood up and cheered.
That really bothered me.

Now that was racist and very stupid. I would have told them to shut up.

Pretty sure no one is going to mistake me for being Chinese anytime soon. Unless it's one of those telemarketers that think I'm an ABC. The type that get pissed because my Mandarin sucks.

Could be. Despite what a lot of non-whites might think, if you're a mixed race Asian and look white it's not really a compliment to have it pointed out by an Asian. Now I'm not saying there aren't social privileges associated with looking like a white foreigner, I'm merely pointing out that there are social negatives as well.
Then again, I feel like total shit today and the only thing keeping me from the Nyquil and bed right now is milky tea and Thin Mints. Coherent thought isn't a priority.

I so identify with being Asian, that the non-Asian side is almost non-existent with me.
Plus, it is a mystery at times, what the non-Asian side is. :frown:

Im half black and Chinese. Most people I know don't know. The only thing Asian are my eyes. So when they start with the wise cracks, I pull out the family picture. And that shuts them up.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting more and more annoyed/hurt by the generalizations some people on this site make about whites. It ranges from a) "stupid fetishers" to b) "look at how evil they were in the past" to c)"we must kill them all", and I count my French background as a part of my heritage just like I count my Japanese background as a part of my heritage.
I can't blame some people for having negative experiences with some white people, but I see a lot of generalization going on and it'd be nice i f less people here had a chip on their shoulder with them. =p

No, and resent that automatic assumption some (not you) people have.
We could go back to the definition of Self and ask the individual to which and what culture they relate to. It's nonsense to have to feel a certain affiliation for whatever bits make up a genetic profile. I'd have to swear allegiance to 7+ countries and their cultures if I did this even though I have absolutely no cultural affiliation with less than half of them, and am not even familiar with one third.
What about the country/culture/ethnic population in which there is nothing in my genetic profile but around which I've lived for some time and acclimated to? I could reject or make fun of whatever "makes me up" genetically but relate to where I've been born/raised/lived currently.
Forgetting is one thing, disrespect is another but in some cases, lack of respect or affliliation has really been a product of exposure and environment. Should I actually feel obligated to love or humour all of those cultures? I honestly couldn't be bothered and it gets a little ridiculous with 3rd 4th etc mixed generations.

Depends on the context of the comment. I get pissed if it's in the context of a purebred exercising purebred privilege against me (using anti-White jokes as an exclusion mechanism) but I can tolerate a few jokes as long as they don't go overboard.

Just curious, but are you Arab and Asian? I'm only asking because I am, and I never run into anyone else who is.

i get offended, esp if the joking is in a demeaning way. but then again, if they joke about all races then i would just see it as part of their personality. i actually experience this a lot and i always wonder if i should pipe in and say something (most of the time the jokes aren't told towards me but just around me). sometimes i do, other times i don't. i'm half black/half asian btw.
