As bad as it is, do you stick Qtips into your ears to try to take the ear wax out? Or to suck up the water that got in there from your shower? How about mimikaki? Do you use one of those? What do you do when you think there's ear wax stuck in there?

I must admit, i use way too many Q-tips. I use them to get the earwax and the water out... It's so nasty when you see people with ear wax

Haha you ever use those sticky paraffin things for the ear? You stick it in your ear and it'll adhere to the ear wax and you pull it out. Good stuff.

yeah i think it must be because the inside of the ear is so sensitive. i'm addicted to those things. it feels really good.

Ooh. Ear scoopers are like backscratchers for your ear.

Other than jamming the tip into my ear, I thought Q-tips were bad for you. I use them anyway for now, but where can I get those paraffin things?

They are! When I was working for some Head and Neck surgeons, they talked about how the wax and cotton from the tip get pushed back to the ear drum. They build up and become a great nydus for infection.

Use the scoops where there isn't a risk of plugging your ears with cotton. And if you feel like the scoop ain't working try irrigation. Warm temp helps loosen/melt the wax

Never tried the parafin.. :)

Yeah Ayers hit it right on the dot. Q-tips are bad, but I use them anyways <_< . The ideal way is to irrigate them, you can buy those things at the drug store.

Parafin thingies (whatever they are, I forgot) I got from an ENT seminar hehe, woot freebies!

Using Qtips and such push the ear wax even further into the ear (or something like that), don't they? Is this parafin thing you're talking about those blue bulb-shaped things?

One of my friends actually had to go to the hospital for an ear wax thing. There was so much pushed back from Qtip use that it started to effect her hearing-- something like she couldn't hear out of one ear. The docs flushed some sort of softening solution/warm water through it and sucked up the wax up with a blue bulb thing.

I like cleaning other peoples' ears, too. I've only done my brothers' before though, and only a few times. It's fun. ;x

I'm not sure what the paraffin is; perhaps bunboy could enlighten us. The blue bulb-shaped thingies are actually just that blue 'bulb suction' or suction-thingies. They find their uses in many orifices... including the nose and mouth to clear amniotic fluid from the newborn baby and cleaning out ear wax.

Bunboy: I still use the Q-tips too :P I like to pretend that I know how to use it so it's not clogging my ears with wax.
I love how so many physicians I know are the worst patients -- don't you?

Yeah you're looking at one now, hehe. Some of us definitely do not lead by example. Lol

Oh no, not the paraffin thingy again. I don't know what exactly it is, I'm not sure it's even paraffin. It's a wax thingy. I got it at some Ear, nose and throat (ENT sorry I didn't clarify this) seminar like my 2nd or 3rd year at med school. My memory sucks.

Yah that blue bulb is a suction thingy used to extract residual material from orifices like Ayers said. Kinda like a turkey baster <nudges H.H>

But irrigation is the best method, but I hate that tingly feeling you get when you get that initial flush and when the fluid comes back out <twitch><twitch>

first off, do people just jam qtips in their ears or something? i work my ear canal like a vagina, loosening it up and angling the qtip to get as much out as possible, then i follow up with the ear picker.

I just jam it in and roll it around.

They are all over the place in Japan. Basically they look like the stick part of a Q-tip flattened and curved into a mini-spoon, with the other side looking like a normal Q-tip; there are also old-fashioned ones made of wood that are really with puffballs on the end. It's considered an act of intimacy (like a shoulder rub) to clean out someone's ears, so it's usually done by a spouse or family member.

Japanese people are always freaked out by my earwax, because it is viscous and waxy, while typical Japanese ear wax is flaky and dry. I went to the hospital once with an ear infection, and the doctor couldn't see my eardrum because of all the wax, so he had me lie down and stuck a mini-vacuum in my ear with a fiberoptic camera attached so he could see everything big on a TV screen. It took him about 20 minutes to get it all out; he nearly had a coronary, going, "there's so much... It just keeps coming!". It was pretty surreal to watch the TV screen out of the corner of my eye while I heard fssssckkkkossssssssshhhhh in my ear.

Conversly, the Japanese are superstitious about cleaning out their bellybutton lint, and some men let it build up until it gets all nasty and fuzzy :gross: . This is not as common as it used to be, though.

Now, there's a sight: a dildo jammed into an ear.
