Okay the other random thought was dumb and BS (whoever deleted good job) so here's a better one (me thinks).....


Why is it that people these days are very quick to welcome and accept homosexuality?


When I visited SF, I saw 2 guys French kissing on a public street sidewalk.
When I saw TV on SUNDAY during the day (public channel) I saw 2 guys going at it and rubbing against each other.

So with all of this on mind and now accepted do you want to accept all this completely and see your kids grow up to see homosexuality? What will you explain to your kids when they see 2 men groping each other? What if it turns out that in the future everyone has a choice to choose gayness and bi-sexuality as a lifestyle although it is not due to genetice reasons (more out of choice and willingness to have "the best of both worlds."


Think about this people....this is not an attack but a random thought so don't take it to offense (this is the Internet people!).

Just imagine the goodlife of you and yours in the future when you publicly see 2 men kissing and fondling each others pants as your family take nice walks on the beach etc. And how one day your son will date another gay because he treats him well (although he wants to get into his pants). :lol: :P

well, there are also different levels of acceptance.

e.g., we may accept gay couples that we see on the street, but we wouldn't want them at work. we may accept them in our workplace, but not as friends. we may accept them as friends, but not as relatives. we may accept them as relatives, but we sure as hell don't want our kids to be gay.

there have been many studies on this--i think most people fall in the "accept them as friends" category and have difficulty going beyond that. although we would like to be open-minded (because it's the right thing to do), many of us would have trouble being truly supportive if we were to be in hello_hapa's shoes.

Actually, it's not as altruistic as it may sound. Sexuality [between consenting adults] is a non-issue for me. I see it as a preference just as one would like blonde versus brown hair. There was no difficulty for me to get over. No acceptance for me to embrace.

Do I want my kids to be gay? Frankly, no, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't waste a lot of time lamenting about it and I certainly wouldn't disown them.

Please don't paint me in a corner as trumpeting my diversity horn and please forgive me if I'm misinterpreting your intention. Maybe I am more aware of what the gay community has to deal with and I have become sensitive to the issues. From what I understand, Chris is an intelligent, accomplished man who has been somewhat of a driving force behind some AA issues. I think it is belittling to refer to him as nothing more than a homo from San Francisco. Johnny, among others I'm sure, disagrees. I'm willing to let the issue rest. I just provided an opposing opinion.

There might be some acceptance of gay people openly displaying affection for one another in the big cities and "gay ghettos." But I think it's overstating the case to say that open displays of gay affection are universally accepted. Does the name Matthew Shepard ring any bells?

To be completely honest, I'm a little homophobic, too. Whenever I see or hear gay men express affection for each other (or even just talk to each other in a "flamboyant" way), I cringe a little. However, I know that this cringing is my problem, and not theirs.

But are all public displays of affection "fondling"? If a heterosexual couple started "fondling each other's pants" in public, I think that I'd be pretty put off by that, too. However, a hug, a quick kiss, holding hands, an arm around the shoulder — public displays of affection like these by straight folks don't bother me, and the same kinds of displays by gay people don't bother me either. Still, if a gay or straight couple started getting hot and heavy in public, that would bother me and probably everyone else nearby.

Homosexuality is a fact of life, and it always has been. The best thing that we as a society can do is accept it. Stigmatizing it, demonizing it, and locking it in the closet doesn't do anyone any good. And if you're straight and you feel that a gay person is hitting on you, just say no. It doesn't mean that everyone thinks you're gay. Move on.

I kina agree with you, but I still dislike GAYs who openly express they are gay. For instance gay pride and rainbow stickers (especially on cars), does it have to be commercialized so that everyone has to know you're gay?

Alright this is coming from a gay guy who is gay. Let go into a little background about myself.

Did I choose to be gay?? No
Did I accept myself to be gay? Yes
IF I given an oppunitity to change would I? Yes

I was born like this and I accept of who I am. My family accept me, all my friend accept me and the community know about me being gay. Do I go flaunt it everywhere? No I dont go on flaunting who I am. Nobody "chooses to be gay" nor are we on the mission to convert people to being gay. I look like any other asian guy out there. Hell girls alway hit on me all the time and are disappointed that I am gay. Why? Because I am a nice guy and I treat the ladies well. I give them RESPECT. I give respect to those people that earned them. Just as long you put away those sterotypical sterotypes of gay people I be more than glad to give you an insight to my life. But to be gay bashing on baseless facts will get you nowhere. Like Shuriken says. If a gay person hits on you. Just tell them you're straight. We won't take offense on that. Be flatter LOL. If someone grabs your ass, just say no. Heck girls and guys pinch my butt, I tell them the same thing. I don't like being pinched. Finally gay pride is just as much to me as, Chinese New Year and Fourth of July. If who I am.

My own $.02 (a little late, but better than never), I see nothing wrong with gay or lesbian couples engaging in moderate pda. But like most here, I don't like to see excessive amounts of pda, whether gay or straight (of course, I've only really seen excessive amounts pda among straight couples). Personally, I think it's actually cute when I see two guys or two girls holding hands or being all cutesy together as it pleases me that they feel comfortable enough to engage in pda despite all the social pressures telling 'em that they need put a lid on it. After all, why should a straight person be any more entitled to and publicly affirm their affection for their partner than a gay or lesbian person?

As for the cat thing...I think the cat's more a hindrance than an asset in the dating game. Unlike dogs, which in my experience tend to be more or less hypoallergenic, lotsa people tend to have problems with cats. And seriously, how many dudes d'you know that have cats??
