If you want to see Asian films, run down to chinatown. You are as stupid as a dumb asian with too much "asian pride" can get! What do you think you`ll get with "Boycott Hollywood" you bozo? Open your eyes and stop bitching. We all live in a white man`s land. Yeah so we get all the shitty roles, but right now at this minute many many Asian Americans are auditioning for roles other than gangsters, thugs, martial artists, etc.. You can bet on that cause I`ve been to Hollywood many times and I see lots and lots of us Asian Americans. There are directors, producers, screen writers, etc... out there that already have thought about this shit. In time, there will be a bloom for us....especially after MTV`s bought out film "Better Luck Tommorrow" is released in the fall.

You remember that little talk we had where it was said that you can think and post whatever you want on the topic of AA issues? Same goes for that guy. It's the internet bc (ha! I officially dub him thus), shit happens.

Anyhoo, tell us a bit more about yourself bc. How old are you [roughly], are you Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc. Have any hobbies [fun hobbies]?

So maybe his approach was wrong, but I think he has a valid point. You can't expect Asian Americans to start blowing up the scene so quickly, all at once. If you don't think we're progressing, you should open your eyes. I see so many more Asians on tv as directors, producers, and in roles as more than just extras.

Sure there are Asian directors & actors but where are the Asian American directors and Asian American actors? You guys seem to know some much why don't you give me some Asian American names just to see how many there are and how easy it is for you to name them. Don't name Keanu and the other half asians who look white. In any case, I bet it's much easier for you to name a bunch of white or black actors.

This spunkyasianguy is one of those dreamers who's still young and know shit about the world and even less about Hollywood if he thinks that Asian Americans are getting anywhere in the movies. Just look how far black ppl are in the movies. It was only recently that two blacks got oscars after how many years of the silver screen? Just imagine how long you have to wait to see Asians with white oscars. Believe me it'll be way after our lifetime a hundred year or more later. My purpose for boycotting Hollywood is to not give them the satisfaction of ignoring the minorities and still go around making blatantly offensive movies like "The Fast and the Furious" and have Asians pay to see it. That's a slap in the face ppl!!! We don't have to take it.

I'm taking it and I'm doing just fine. Slaps are fun.
I'd post something that actually makes sense, but bear with me. I can barely keep my eyes open here. I think I should go to bed soon.

boycott, have you checked out the yahoo group "aziatikartsla"...? It's one of the best message boards I've seen for Asian actors/directors/entertainers in the LA area.

Go ahead and boycott Hollywood then. Don't rain on my parade, though. I fucking love the movies. If "The Fast and the Furious" is so blatantly offensive, how come almost every Asian person I know was fucking thrilled to watch it, and went out and bought it as soon as it came out on DVD. And if all the Asians in the United States boycotted Hollywood, I highly doubt it would make even a dent. It's not going to take a hundred years for an Asian American to become prominent in the film industry. It only took African Americans a few decades to go from being the percieved scum of America to become who they are today. Asians don't have to work quite as hard as they did, I don't think. I mean, we don't have to come from slavery or anything. We never were accepted by the entire society as the crap of all nations... The world as a whole is, for the most part, better than that now. And before you expect Asian Americans to be ALL OVER every facet of the United States, you should try to pile more Asians in America, don't you think? Asian Americans will never dominate anything in America unless they dominate in numbers first. It's a mathematical thing, not a racist thing.

My brother said the same thing when he went out to buy his copy of Fast and the Furious on the day it was released to DVD. "Best Buy was packed full of asians. I had to wait in line for 10 min." Fast cars, targets the wannabe racer audience -- I doubt most asians care that most of the actors were white.

I'm with angel and saiko on this... I watch the movies I want to watch, and don't if I don't like em. Rather than focus on the negative 'trash' that Hollywood produces, why not support and encourage the films that are noteworthy? Send Hollywood a message that you want more asians in positive roles.

Out of curiosity, bc, did you watch any of these particularly Asian-insensitive films like Fast and the Furious?

Also, could you name some films that you did enjoy and would support for their choice of asian actors/directors/etc?

I did watch "The Fast and The Furious", first off the sound was annoyingly loud. Watching non-Asians with the import car scene and some non-import cars in the movie was freaky. Watching the Asian guy dressed in black as the bad guy and then having his mealtime interrupted by cops busting into his house was about the only honest thing in the movie. Just glad they didn't make up an Asian sister for Rick Yune's bad ass character who falls head over heels for the white cop or punk baldy. As for Asians who ran to buy this DVD, they should also pick up Pearl Harbor to see whites as heroes and the dirty japs as themselves in all war movies from Hollywood.
How stupid are you when you go to see that movie and find that they've taken an Asian thing and gave it to the latinos, made a white cop the hero and asian guy the villain, to actually rush to buy that movie and put more money in their pockets so they can come out with more movies with Asians as gangster and whites as heroes? These are the same Asians who shop at A&F and believe that there is no racism and all is nice so let's go smell the daisys and hold hands and sing a song.

I'd like to name "The Scorpion King" as one of the first movies in Hollywood where the Asian American man has a postive role and gets the Asian lady back from the evil white guy to be the most important movie of the millenium. Despite the story line and plot being so simple and childlike, the ultimate message was loud and f..king clear!!! I know the Rock is half Samoan and half black, but his Asian side reflects his appearance more than black.

Hate to burst your bubble but the import thing is not STRICTLY Asian. A lot of the big-wigs in the industry who have the most sponsors and the most money... are... European. Boo fucking hoo. How stupid are YOU to assume that just because a bunch of Asians do something, it's totally "an Asian thing," and then get pissed when white people stereotype Asians and their cars as all "just a bunch of rice rockets."

Just to tell you... I think more white people relate to the Rock and see him as a role model than Asian people do.

^-- oh, no no no... I mean the big guys in the game. I go to import shows every once in a while, and yeah, most of the people there are Asian, but if you ask who funded the car or who owns it... wow, you'd be suprised. A lot of black people, a lot of Latino people, and a whole lot of European doods. Not really *WHITE* people... but like.. yeah.

I met the guy who owns the Fast and the Furious green Eclipse (saw him at the gym). He's a total asshole of a big European guy, too. And a lot of the cars I see featured in car mags aren't owned by Asians. Sure the cars are manufactured by Asians, but the import scene doesn't necessarily *BELONG* to us.

I don't go to the movies. I watch all the new theatrical releases via bootleg DVD. I buy them from this elderly Chinese guy up in the Bronx at 6 bucks a pop. Yo can't get more Asian than that.

Just trying to ease the tension, it's thick in here.

Well the asians have moved away from drag racing and move to track or illegal excursions up to various moutains. back in the day when drag was big i remember teams like precision, wicked, and etc. they were asian guyz from here and there mostly. The pioneers like frank choi (founder of battle of the imports), Import Show off (ken mihosho), etc were all mostly asian guyz at least in west coast.

Obviously the craze for fixed up japanese cars came from japan as most of the parts manufactuers are japanese. yah their not owned all by asians because to be fair they have to cover cars that are nice or trendy owned by anyone. Plus my philosophy if it aint made in japan its not goin on my car is pretty much the trendy thing and was the orginal way to do things (not by choice).

Are u denying that japanese cars and how their "quality" parts are made by japanese companies. Are u denying the japanese influence on the impoty scene and all the efforts made by many young asian men and women since the early 80's? Asians also have an advantage if u didnt know the market is dominated by a special force its called who you know...who hooks who up and whose connected.

^--- No. I'm denying the fact that IN ORDER to be really big in the import scene you MUST be Asian. Just thought I should mention that a lot of really nicely done cars aren't owned by Asians. Anybody who's got money can do that shit. No big deal. The way some people act, it's like... when they see a non-Asian in a fixed up import, they get all butt hurt about it. I'm not trying to say that Asians are NOT a huge part of the scene... I'm just trying to say that it's a very broad spectrum of people who are interested in it. Not *just* an Asian thing.

Ahh, NYC! I bought my first bootlegs from a guy outside Penn Station who had all of his merchandise on a easy-to-carry blanket (if youre a Fed, I didn't do it). Since San Diego doesn't have any of that here I've resorted to finding them online and buying bigger harddrives to feed my addiction.

Blade, Truman Show, and a third for $10. What was funny was I thought the 'laugh track' I heard throughout the Truman Show was actually part of the movie. It wasn't until I saw it later on video release that I realized the laughter was recorded from the audience

:P

Feels like there are multiple posts with the same theme to em and too much of a dichotomy between the 2 sides. <sigh>
