I think I've fallen into the "trap" of finding guys that are similar to my father's personality. eek! Do you find yourself in the same pattern? Or, do you prefer a guy in your life who is similar to your father?

In my case, total opposites. Big, thug of an Irish cop versus squeaky little mouse of a Chinese computer geek.

my dad's an engineer, but he's no geek. i would be very happy to meet a guy with a similar personality as my dad--not that i'm in love with my dad or anything. ew. my dad can tell really funny jokes with a mockingly straight face, he's also very aware of current issues in both asia and the u.s., he watches football, was on varsity gymnastics in high school (hehe), and is good-looking. :)
my brother is kinda like my dad if any of you younger single gals are looking. he's 21.

With my most recent ex, which I also consider my first real
relationship (whatever that means), I found that over time he would have certain personality traits that were a lot like my father's - which at that time scared me because my father and I had a whole lot of unresolved issues which since then we've worked out.
I didn't notice the slight resemblance in the beginning, but over time I picked up certain things that they both had in common, like their self-absorbed natures and tendencies to go on tangents -_-;;

Hey, she's just trying to be a good sister and look out for her sibling. Nothing wrong with that. Also good to have benefit for those girls worried about any potential beau's family.

heck no. i dislike my father (sadly) and i fall for guys the total OPPOSITE of my dad.
but isn't the thing where you fall for guys like your dad...it's called the electra complex. yay for my old sophomore english teacher. even though she hated me.
but no. i don't want a boyfriend like my father at all. :pissed:

I was actually talking about this with one of my friends not too long ago and she said in her psychology class, she read that women actually subconciously look for men with the same scent as their father. :huh: weird huh?

actually, i believe women are attracted to men who have opposite pheromones as their father. they want men who smell differently than their own fathers.

I think I'm too young to have that problem... and, ah, knowing my father's history (drunk, druggie, got his first wife prego when they were still dating) I think I'd prefer to date someone who's NOT like my dad..
