thanks, ipaki, for looking into it. it actually means a lot to me, as a chinese-american, to see individuals of others Asian ethnicities embrace issues affecting the Chinese community as their own.

i am trying to schedule a phone interview with Vincent Chin's mother. I will keep everyone posted.

Its no problem. I heard this along time ago. The asian activist told me another story about the Hong murder case, about him dying because he worked for the mail company and was shot by a white supremiscist...but, she lives in china...can you actually located Mrs. Chin?

There's actually some Vincent Chin-themed Visual Communications event next week that's sponsored by all of the Asian American bar associations. I'll look into it...

Some things still bother me...

1. Was there any witness?
2. Any evidence...like blood or any fingerprints?
3. Were the jury racists?
4. Was the judge racist?
finally......

5. Was there any bribes involved? Since those murderers didn't spend any time in jail and the main suspect went into hiding...

Sometimes i wonder if being american is worth saying after reading this and other stories on asian hate crimes.....

" If you are consider a foreigner in the US & consider a foreigner in korea if you are korean american....where is your country? "

This is what some girl stated in my college Asian studies class...think about it.

Too sad to hear this, but at least that mrs.chin will be reunited with her son in heaven.

Didn't the papers and other information on the net posted that Mrs.Chin was upset with the US system of justice and left the US for china?

I think one positive outcome of the activism surrounding Vincent Chin's death is that America as a country is much more sensitive towards foreign-guilt-by-association and racial violence than before. to hear President Bush, for instance, openly caution against violence against Arab and South Asian Americans in the aftermath of 9/11 was really heartening. I think people are learning, because of cases like Vincent Chin's, that it doesn't make ANY sense to blame individuals who happen or, in Chin's case, were thought to be of some country's descent for the actions of another country's companies, government, or other individuals. I think we've come a long way since the Supreme Court justified Japanese American internment by saying they just couldn't be sure who's loyal and who's not among Japanese Americans just because they were of Japanese descent.

I agree. To the more liberal amongst us: I don't think it's fair to say that progress has not been made. Progress has, slow as it may have been. We're not conceding anything by saying that we have moved forward.

perhaps. but some may perceive us to be.

And those [i:42916f8402]people need to be destroyed[/i:42916f8402]...!!

In all seriousness, I understand, it requires a delicate manipulation of both sides in order to achieve anything -- not just the side that shouts, "Burn baby burn!" from the corner, but also the voice of "reason"...

Twenty years later, a murder in Detroit remains a turning point in the APA movement. [details (http://yellowworld.org/?m=show&id=14)]
