Right now this is the dude that's front runner to play Supes in the newest movie, which should be out hopefully sooner than later. He looks like the comic version, but the only question is can he act well enough to do it?
Nice jaw for it. But can he look mild-mannered? =D

True, true...she is lookin kinda stiff in the new star wars episodes. And she ain't really spunky enough, u know? Lois Lane is that take no shit type of woman, follow around Superman to no end to get that story regardless of who he's fighting. If she can do that, then it's possible.

Man, I swear...it's never easy with you, kittygirl. But wouldn't the insecurities make her a little more three dimensional? If she was the good little girlfriend non-stop, it'd be too weird. And yeah, I do have Justice League series on the brain, as you can see. If this needs to be merged, I apologize. I just read that WB is making changes to the Superman flick and may be casting Beyonce, of all people, as Lois Lane, and Johnny Depp as Lex Luthor. I just wanna go into the fetal position and just lie in the darkness if this is true. Beyonce and Johnny are cool, but I think it's a blatant pandering to make Lois Lane a "sassy black reporter" and Lex Luthor a Keith Richards wanna-be. Luthor is supposed to be a huge guy, and it just seems...way too wrong. I hope they change this, and soon.

to be fair... lex was at one point a hot red-headed guy who was doing supergirl. they *could* be going that route.
I could potentially see lois as a sassy black reporter. I could *not* see her as Beyonce. The character of Lois Lane evokes many images in my mind... 'bootylicious' is not one of them.

1) Christian Bale has been cast as Batman, not Superman :)
2) Batman and Wonder Woman kiss during the Obsidian Age in the comics, just before shit hits the fan. Later, it is alluded that they have mutual attraction. An issue deals with their budding relationship -- they basically decide that they don't want to fuck up their friendship and that they couldn't be effective warriors if they were in love.

1) Crazy how after all this time they finally cast someone who actually looks a little more the part than the earlier actors. Granted, this is supposed to be Darren Arronofsky's version of Year One, but Bale is the closest I've seen, actor-wise.
2) I probably forgot if there was, but do you recall any books that had any inklings of Superman and WW having any attraction for each other? I'm trying to think back.

Cause if they hire a popular actor, everyone is gonna be looking at it like, "Oh, that's so-and-so up there playing his/her version of *insert popular character here*. Ever since the Batman nightmare, a lot of people have preferred that most popular fictional characters be played by unknowns, so they can relate better to the character as opposed to the actor.

Hmmm... well, definitely Kingdom Come. DK2 (Dark Knight Strikes Back)... the elseworlds about the black light event... (Act of God), most of it is elseworlds stuff but its because in the actual continuity, lois gets too pissed off for any serious innuendo to be overt. Check out 'Til Death Do Us Part (a Supes graphic novel) where Lois gets pissed about WW.
There's a couple of other actual continuity examples, but I can't remember off the top.

That guy looks too young to be Superman. How about Danzel Washington as Superman, Superman doesn't have to be white. I think Roxanne Biggs Dawson or maybe Courtney Cox could be Lois Lane. That guy who played agent Smith in the Matrix would make an interesting Lex Luthor.

Hmmm....
Denzel is a talented actor, true enough, but it would be kinda weird to see him as Superman, though. It's kinda closed minded of me, but I'm kind of a purist when it comes to the comic book adaptions of movies. Superman and Lois are white, so you should find someone that fits that description to an extent. If they made Blade, Luke Cage, or the Black Panther white, believe me, I'd be protesting for days. The Kingpin in Daredevil was a rare, rare exception because they had to find someone with the build to play him, and Marlon Brando was a little too old and obese to do it.

So whaddya think of Ben Kingsley as Luthor?
I think he could've played him early on, but at this point in his life he might be a little too mature for the part. I wanna see him play the Vulture in Spider-Man, though. I know Kingsley isn't a white guy like Luthor, so I see the point you're making in response what I said earlier. The race isn't always relative to the personality the actor brings to the character. I didn't really think about it beforehand, I was just taken aback by the thought of someone automatically casting Beyonce outta the blue.

01-29-2004, 06:18 PM
Heh, I gotta admit to the closed mindedness too. Even for Luther, I can't imagine anyone but a bald, white guy (thanks, JL and Smallville).
The thing with Superman...I just seem him as a really 2D character. Even as Clark Kent there isn't much to work with as, say, Bruce Wayne. To give that role to Denzel Washington would be a waste of talent. I'd rather have these semi / no-name actors...
[QUOTE=TB4000] I wanna see him play the Vulture in Spider-Man, though. QUOTE]
That'd be cool, but they killed Adrien Tombs in the first Spider-man, so...they'd have the look of the Vulture, but not the name.

Hrm...I guess because it's a matter of not considering possibly good, if not great, actors for a role for no real reason other than he or she just not looking the part
I think most fans of whatever the original work is would rather see something they know rather than something better (or not) but different.

Beyoncé Confirms She's Up for Superman! Source: Extra Saturday, February 7, 2004
You heard it first here at , and now singer/actress Beyoncé Knowles herself has confirmed that she is up for the role of Lois Lane in McG's Superman.
She tells Extra, "I hope so. Everyone pray that happens for me." Don't believe us? Click the link and read the article or watch the video.
We also broke the news that Johnny Depp is up for the role of Lex Luthor, we'll keep you updated on that as well. Beyoncé will open Sunday night's Grammy Awards with Prince.
Well, maybe those rumors weren't too far off. If she had a little more acting experience, maybe I could see it...because there are a handful of other black actresses that could do Lois better if that's what they were going for. Though if I had to choose, it'd be either Selma Blair or Sanaa Latham.

Yea, do you think people would be down if they had a black or asian guy play Superman? Even if it was like a big buff asian guy like Rick Yune? I dun think so. I think even Asian people in support of pro-AA-activism would find it weird if they cared about Superman in the least, haha.

^---meh, i think doing a superman movie is gonna be almost (though not quite) as bad an idea as the live action DBZ
i mean yeah they've done superman before and it can be done but superman's costume for one is a lil outdated, i mean i guess its THE cliched superhero costume so yeah, theres no way around it, because the purists would take issue (aint gonna be no cleavage showing cape ala catwoman)
Keep in mind that the 80's special effects were no match for today's.
I just so happened to be in a Costco looking at the a DK book about the history of Superman.
He has some of the coolest villians by far. They'd kick the ever living shit out of the Hulk.
They could remake Superman, using today's special effects, and throw in some super bad ass villians and the movie would rock.

Very interesting comments, KuroBishounen.
Any re-packaging is possible as long as it is believable.
Black capeless might be more hip than the blue thing.
