i find it peculiar that none of the girls are butch. anyhow, have any of you been able to catch an episode? what did you think?
Heh, I'm so glad there's a show about lesbians, but let's hope that Asians and Pacific Islanders get a better reception that they did on Queer as Folk.

saw the premiere last weekend...my thoughts exactly. no butch women, not too many ethnic women. all they've got are chic lesbians or as i call them the "hollywood chics". no, we don't all drive nice cars, have great jobs and eat at cafes everyday. but then again, that was the first episode. i have hope...

hah! fantasy lesbians.
i don't mean to stereotype - but about one-third to half the lesbians i've ever seen in real life either have shaved heads or have crew cuts. and leather jackets.

i think it's great that lesbians are getting
their own show, like this.
but i've been watching previews
and it just looks stupid.
maybe it's because i'm getting sick of
all these gay/lesbian shows now.

But how did you know they were lesbians? Did you give them a test?

why are you getting sick of all these gay/lesbian shows? there are not nearly as many as all these "straight" shows. i'm getting sick of all these reality "straight" shows!!

well, i'm not sick of them per se, but i just think it's annoying that all gays and lesbians are portrayed a certain way.
e.g., queer eye for the straight guy - all the gay men are flaming. but in real life, not all gay men are flaming.
e.g., the L word. all the lesbians are hot and femme. but in real life, not all lesbians are that way. it almost seems like the show is made for men - know what i mean?

I don't think all the guys on Queer Eye are especially effeminate. Yes, Carson is off the charts, Jai and Thom don't leave a huge amount of room for doubt, but Kyan strikes me as pretty "straight," and Ted sometimes doesn't quite seem to belong in the crew.
And given how gay men are often portrayed, even Carson is rather non-histrionic and "flaming."

Same here. I wouldn't think that they were lesbian. Once again, a deliberate action taken by the television moguls to get high ratings. What better way than to have hot women who are lesbian to attract men? Please.
Are any of them bi by any chance?? Nope haven't caught any episode. And who is that lone guy there?

There's nothing wrong with them being flaming. I think it's even worse when they are flaming, but try and cover it up with the whole "str8-acting" routine. As for these ladies, I'm guessing that they're going with the ultro-femme look to grab some of the straight male audience first and then they'll start laying down the butch girls with Birkenstocks.

my issue with the show is not only with the women's looks. they don't really live the "real" life, ya kno? or at least, the show hasn't gone that way yet. one storyline that is pretty real tho..is the straight girl who may soon be exploring her sexuality further. my friend is going thru the exact same thing. =(
lesbians come in all sorts and i haven't seen that in the show yet. i hope to see the good and the bad of our community. well, i have yet to make up my mind.
on a lighter note...who's the cutest girl???

I like the brunette with the white shirt who is sitting down. Great bone structure from this angle. Or the brunette standing behind her. I like brunettes. Bru. Nette.

Oooh ooh! I actually started a thread a week or two ago when they played the very first 2 hour long episode. I kept hearing the commercials for it on the radio so I decided to check it out. Well, sure enough, it got me hooked! I really like this show because I personally think it's kinda different from all the other shows. It's not about stupid stuff. It shows problems and different situations that lesbians go through. I like the different personalities of the cast.

hello,
so honestly, the l word makes me all hot & bothered. its almost like watching some soft p**no. you know? what i want to know is why they have to still utilize stupid standards of having the one token black woman and a biracial black woman who passes. How many of you knew she suppose to be black too? i mean, the only reason you know or are reminded is that she has dinner with daddy and she wants her partner to have a biracial black baby. why not live a little and have lots of POC's involved??
and you're darned right i wish there were more butches involved. i want to see a strapping tall butch who comes in and get the so called butch of the season a lesson or too about how to strut her butchy stuff.
its an ok series.

No shit. I love the show overall but the only Asians or interpretation of Asian elements were extremely offensive. What comes to my mind was the episode where Emmet has a Japanese speaking-only playful and goofy Japanese that ditches him for an older white guy, shouting "Money!"
The other thing I can think of also involved Peter Paige (actor who plays Emmet) where he did a fake 'Asian' accent twice: once in response to something I forget, the other I think he dressed up as a geisha.
I never posted about it because I didn't think anyone had seen it around here but me.
