Mentally retarded? Gypsies? Not very PC terminology ... but yes, National Socialism was essentially a crude programme of eugenics - which was odd, as Nazi "science" rejected the idea of genetics. Their's was based on creating good 'stock'. Gays, Jews, the disabled (physically or mentally) and foreigners were rounded up. Those that were lucky were deported or escaped into exile to neutral countries. Those that were unlucky went to the camps.

Those Germans that fled to England before the war, some 30,000 people, were less lucky - they were interned, and before hostilities began the UK tried to repatriate them back to Nazi Germany. Imagine the horror of that.

The 30s and 40s were dark times, a lot of terrible things happened, or were allowed to happen.

I believe that the worse is yet to come. Call me a pessimist, but if you take a walk through history you'll notice that every century plays host to an atrocity of incalculable and unimaginable horror. If history is any indication of the evil humanity is capable of, then the 21st century will be one era that many will not soon forget.

The Middle East is a prime candidate right now. Central Africa too for that matter, although I don't think any conflict there will involve the rest of the world.

Unless the conspiracy theorists are correct and a race for the "Dark Continent" involving the world's current "Great Powers" begins anew. It doesn't seem that far fetched, actually. China, Russia, the USA, France, and the UK have established footholds on the continent, a fact that's disturbingly similar to the protectorates and spheres of influence carved out by the Europeans in the mid to late 19th century.
