Today I found some interesting links about Chinese art.
http://www.asiasociety.org/arts/insideout/works.html
http://china-avantgarde.com/
http://www.posterpage.ch/exhib/ex39_chi/ex39_ch2.htm
I have another link bookmarked at home that I will add.
What sites do you recommend for art? What type of art do you like best? I have rather eclectic tastes, I like everything from avant garde to classical representations to greeting cards
Oh, and any artists here at YW? I know Tapestrybabe is an artisan, are there any painters, doodlers, and creative folk?

interesting sites. personally, i like simple art. like chinese brush paintings; my walls are plastered with stuff that i get whenever i go to taiwan. too easily overwhelemed i guess. it sort of shows itself in my doodles

I visited the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco last month. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. I don't even like art that much, but there was a lot of history, so I learned a lot of history and religion through art.

I think Minneapolis has an Asian Art musuem, but I've yet to find it. I keep hearing these rumors that is exists though...
I like everything from ancient to contemporary. Visit museums and galleries regularly. Always visit the museum in a city I visit. I draw, do vector illustration and digital painting, paper art, pop-up cards, getting into panoramic and composite photography, just starting with a pinhole camera. My girlfriend got me interested in mailart, but have yet to test the U.S. Postal Service's limits.
Some recent findings on the web:
http://www.kozyndan.com/ - i just bought a print of "Uprisings" for a friend
http://www.ecn.org/sexyshock/start.swf - minimalist porn, kinda worksafe, Flash
http://www.cowlesgallery.com/Burtynsky.html - Edward Burtynsky's industrial beauty photographs. Has some pictures of the Three Gorges Dam project.
http://stage.itp.tsoa.nyu.edu/%7Ejn429/balldroppings/ - Josh Nimoy's balldroppings, an interactive art piece, shown at Compact-Impact Night Vol. 1 (http://www.compact-impact.com/night/vol01/index.html)

That's a really awesome link! I wish everyday graffiti were more like that.
Sorry, it's Flash and I can't provide a direct link, but these people have bowls made from partially-melted toy soldiers. Among some other things -- furniture and home furnishings.

Would you like a portrait with your latte? (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,9301012%255E2862,00.html) - Food art

^ that last one basically just uses the same technique that is used for marbling paper.
Single-panel comics illustrate a scenario with a text caption underneath to create a humorous situation. Just how much difference does it make what the image is or what the text says? This site takes a simple approach: solicit images and captions, separate them, then mix them together randomly. Results are sometimes funny, more often than not blasé, and of course, nonsensical, but it's an interesting adventure.

Site's self-description:
Pillow Fight Bloodbath (http://www.pillowfightbloodbath.com/) is a performance piece by conceptual artist Mary DeSade. It is filmed in SadoVision(TM), a unique new art form combining VR photography and video object movies. You can see Mary DeSade explain SadoVision by clicking on [What the Hell Is This?].
---
SadoVision is basically QuickTime VR. You will need the plugin (if you have QuickTime then you're already set to go). Technologically, nothing new, but very polished. The best part of the whole thing is... well, the whole thing. Kinda goes along with the various pornography & women threads currently running.
Not Safe For Work.

This is actually really neat. You can move them around and pan the room and stuff. I've seen other porn like this where you drag the mouse to make, um, stuff happen. Very good find, ism
