If you're somewhat of a film buff, you've probably seen a few movies over time that have been re-released with the subtitle "the director's cut". Apocolypse Now, Alien, and the Exorcist have all had this done to them in recent years, to attempt to showcase the movie to a new generation in theatres, but also to tack on extras that weren't in the original but the cutting room floor. Some directors say, "this is the way I intended for the film to be", but it appears that they're just doing it to cash in on their classic work to a greater extent. Personally, I feel like any older film that's been labeled a classic doesn't need re-release...if they have extras they can be seen on a dvd.

I don't know if i agree with this in practice; the remodeled Star Wars Trilogy #1 was pretty damn good. I do hope, though, that no one ever plans on doing a retake of the Trilogy #2

I always thought Director's Cut meant there was nudity.
I still do. :|

well i tend to think "extra violence" but at the same i figure DC is probly overrated, like nothing new to add.
dvd extras is the same really, cept when its like LOTR DVDs i know im getting plenty of extras
other than that its kinda boring. like Unbreakable's dvd extras were just phone conversations

directors are usually asked to make cuts wither because of content or time issues. So certain scenes that the director would think help develop a character more would be put in the director's cut. Also movie executives would want to change the movie entirely so the director's cut would still be important to me personally. Remember Blade Runner? The director's cut was a lot different than the "happy ending" original.

now, it would be funny - in a macabre way - if disney ever released a non-happy ending series for its movies. though i guess there would be a lot of crying kids afterwards
