View Full Version : Eating Envy

Once in awhile, I'm confronted by someone-- either black or caucasian-- who asks,"Asian women seem to eat as much as they want and still not grow an inch on their waist." While I don't think this statement necessarily applies to every Asian female, a lot of Asian women around my age are mostly proportional to their height to very thin and/or petite. Once in awhile, I'll see a fellow Asian sista who deviates from this norm. Aside from the metabolic rate, I am curious as to what your daily/weekly eating regimen entails. Basically regardless of your weight/size, how and what do you eat? It must be the rice, folks. Sounds like a mundane question, but I just have to ask.

while i will probably not be able to find the source anymore, i did read a study a few years ago that shows that eating disorders are very common in Asian women.

on the other hand, i did date a chinese girl once that eats almost more than me but is about half my size. don't ask me the why or how. it amazed me too. it's not like she was a constant bundle of energy that just bounced off the walls either.

i know what u mean when it comes to those super skinny girls. it amazes me how incredibly thin they are. me, i eat a lot and while to others it may not seem that i gain weight, i can tell when ive added on a few pounds. my weight tends to fluctuate a lot, but i always stay within a certain range so no one seems to notice if im a little bigger than usual.

i eat basically whatever i feel like, mostly junk food (yeah i know...bad liz) im not a big breakfast person and i eat lunch most of the time. i eat the most in the hours following school and before and after dinner. im one of those people that doesnt eat a lot of big meals, but nibbles throughout the day. since i have a wacked out sleeping schedule its not uncommon for me to be plopped down in the kitchen at 3 or 4 am snacking.

My two ex-girlfriends both ate as much as anyone else out there, ate plenty of junk food and treated themselves to regular midnight snacks and yet were constantly what I'd characterize as underweight for their frames. Because of their size, they'd always get rude comments about them having eating disorders or not eating enough. That really pissed 'em off (and me too since I saw first hand their eating prowess). For the life of me, I can't seem to gain weight unless I make regular trips to the gym. I think some people, both men and women, are just blessed/cursed with super fast metabolisms. Or who knows, maybe we have tape worms...=P

My eating patterns change a lot. Often, one week a month I completely pig out (damned PMS). The rest, I either eat healthily or I live off two bowls of rice a day. Right now, I'm doing that rice thing. -_- Until last year, I've been eating everything I wanted. When I was little, I could eat anything I wanted and never gained a pound. I found my unhealthy eating has caught up to me so that's why I stopped it. Now I think it's just as unhealthy, but oh well. I only eat more when I feel that I'm losing energy, which I never do even if I lose a week of sleep. God bless my unlimited adrenaline supply. I like it. Wake up. Groggy as hell. 10 minutes later I'm bright eyed and bouncing off walls faster than a monkey on crack.

It's good because it fills you up fast and it takes longer to digest, leaving you less hungry longer. God bless grain.

I don't watch what I eat at all. I eat lots of junk food... Either fast food, takeout, or instant foods (noodles, easymac, hot pockets, etc)... LOL. Welcome to college life. *Sigh*

>> ahhh i cant stand super duper skinny girls..just bugs me so much...it kind of scares me...they look like walking skeletons =P...as for me i can be considered thick...or skinny...i dont know..im not super skinny though..most of my meat is in my thighs since i used to work them out a lot..its muscle not cellulite!!! i tend to work out my stomache the most...im obsessed with having it toned n whatnot...

>> as for eating...my appetite fluctuates a lot...right now i cant seem to eat much...i usually pull a liz and snack throughout the entire day to eliminate the need for big meals...hehe...i usually only eat one meal a day since i wake up around 2 or 3...way past lunch haha...damn im so unhealthy.

My meals compose of mainly vegetables (e.g. broccoli, eggplant, onions, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, beansprouts, green onions, lemon grass, basil, etc.)

I only eat meat three times a week on average. When I say meat, I mean salmon, chicken/turkey deli slices, chicken in general, and various other seafood.

Carbohydrates... damn, I load up on that stuff. I eat bread, cereals, rice, noodles, etc.... I can't get enough of it.

Dairy... i only drink skim milk though I used to drink 2% (ick).

Of course, there are times when I indulge with my parents whenever we eat at some buffet or at some nice chinese restaurant.. gotta enjoy life some time! =)

Then, I have my guilty pleasures, which are spicy beef jerky, squid shreds, fruit-roll ups, merigue cookies, gum up the yin yang, fish sticks, and hot dogs. =)
