Doesn't matter if it's Western or Asian, do you do anything to avoid bad luck?

When we bought our house we made sure that no windows or doors lined up with the front door. Sometimes we avoid buying things in fours, and of course we always want eight.

I'm paranoid about Friday the 13th.

Well, I don't have a lot, but my parents have a ton of superstitions. They believe our house and street number shouldn't have a 4 in it. Our new house shouldn't be facing oncoming traffic... sounds wierd but i've seen houses like that. No one in my family should break any glass in the house.... Although, my friend whom I was trying to show how to dance knocked over the spherical covers of our chandelier. I didn't care how much it cost to replace. I just didn't want any kind of bad omen in my house. =) Hmm...when I was younger, I was told not to take a bath until a few days after Chinese New Year or else I'd wash away all of my luck. Red means lucky in my culture. We're not suppose to wear red during funerals. Um.... I know a bunch of other superstitions because I actually wrote a report on this stuff in grade school, but I'll just leave it at that. =)

did you know that alot of business and residential buildings in HK don't have the 4th floor? they just go from the 3rd floor to the 5th floor. some go as far as to skip all the floors that end with a 4.

by the way, i got my driver's license on a Friday the 13th. it was snowing too.

ive never been superstitious...i think we get a lot of that from our parents and mine never raised me to be paranoid about such occurances. the only things i learned about were from cartoons and were very common, like friday the 13th...

Not really superstitious... I try not to do things that are commonly percieved to be as bad luck... breaking mirrors, opening umbrellas indoors, walking under ladders, etc... but I don't take it real seriously.

Do I do anything to avoid "bad luck?" I've opened umbrellas indoors plenty of times. I don't fear black cats. If I spill the salt, I just brush it off the table onto the floor. I do, however, avoid breaking mirrors, but that's 'cause I don't want to have to clean up broken glass.=)

When I used to throw my money away on roulette, I always threw some money down on "8." And speaking of "8", ever since I became the 8th member of the new yellowworld forums, I think my luck's taken a turn for the better.=)

Doc, that's what parents are for.

Wylin doesn't believe in luck. Dunno about me. I'm too dead to think about it right now. :/

So THAT'S why I couldn't wear red to funerals. I've always wondered that because I remember my mom saying to me, "No, don't wear this shirt. It's bad to wear red to funerals." My parents don't have a lot of superstitions though. I either have none or next to none. It's all silliness.

i dont believe in luck amietron because i took so many statistics classes for my major 5 of them ! everything is a random possibility that flows along the bell curve.

i believe in destiny and that everyone has sum kind of destiny thats been somewhat predetermined and God gives us choices along the way the might somwhat alter that destiny. Kinda like choose your own adventure.

i also believe in magic! i cast Fire 3, Ice 2, Flare, Ultima ... etc =X

well it's not just luck. it's everything like prosperity, good fortune, happiness, etc etc. and it's not really superstition that you wouldn't wear red to a funeral. it's that you're supposed to wear drab colors as an expression of sorrow.

From A mag in 1998 or 99, I read my Chinese horoscope and it said that in the year of the dragon I being a tiger would have it bad financially. $1,000 less and later I was a believer. Racist white cop in Daly City gave me a $325 ticket for parking in the handicap zone on Dec 26 ,2000 while I was inside and there were 4 other unused handicap spots open. Some blacks robbed me of $500 dollars. Car towed for $160 plus tax and a ticket for $35. Getting back to superstition; other than that incident I'm immune to American superstition. I'm too Asian for that. I believe a lot in Karma in that you treat ppl the way they treat you and vice versa and things you do may come back good or bad.

Superstition when it comes to gambling; I usually try to find Asian women dealers when I play blackjack 21 (only game I can play) due to my understanding that some women are ageman (good luck gals/fem. sex). However, it doesn't always work because sometimes they're too old or too whitewashed and the luck just isn't there. When this happens I go for agechins (good luck guys/mas. sex) which in my case happens to be young white men for some strange reason not young asian men as you would think. Oppositely old asian and white men are the worst luck for me. Everyone has different agemans/agechins so go do your own research. When I play I go small and test my luck, if I don't wind after 2 to 3 hands then I move on to another dealer. Luck always moves around so one has to move around as well in order to look for it and catch it. That's why I don't stay with a dealer that lets me win too long because once the luck is gone I start handing my winnings back to the casino. Stay away from silver themed casinos which will drain you dry due to bad luck. Hope this helps you ppl who occasionally gamble and for those of you hooked on gambling get help or you'll be a broke, familyless, homeless person who'll end up on the streets'. Lastly, if you win due to my free $1mil concept be sure to remember me if you're the generous and decent human being type because I sure am or else I wouldn't be posting this top secret Gambling Fengshui stuff. Good luck. :D

Damn! $325 for parking in the handicapped space?

And I was thinking about moving to the Bay Area, too.

so how old they are and how white-washed they are also is a factor in how much luck they bring you? <_< by the way, how are you able to know that they're white-washed? i guess you talk to them alot?

Exactly, you talk to them. Most goodluck ones are very congenial and actually say hello and smile,etc... The badluck ones are the serious, unfriendly ones that don't smile or care. Also I love being able to drink and gamble at the same time, makes me feel like a king.

perhaps that's why you don't win! maybe it doesn't have anything to do with good luck charms. :D

i can be very superstitious when things aren't going my way. i have a theory on why most poor (as opposed to middle class) people are religious.

Does anyone have good luck stuff in the car? Mirror danglies? Sanrio cuties lining the rear window? Shrine on the dashboard?

I had a kerropi dangly on my mirror and a lot of sanrio bobble head thingies, my girlfriend put on the dashboard. It just got way too much and I took them down because I started feeling really moist. One or two is ok with me, but like 10 just on my dash board, too much.

How are they good luck? It's distracting when you drive in rush hour traffic in NYC, with those heads bobbing up and down <sigh>. I do have to admit though I kept that penguin up <something><something> maru, he kicked ass.

Actually, I do win quite often, more than I lose. When I win I get back the money I lost and it evens out or I come out ahead with some extra pocket cash. The only time I lost badly was at the Silver Legacy. Getting back to my point about the drinking, I can drink my favorite "bailey's coffee" for free while I gamble. It's almost like being at home.
