Hulk Smash?
I've only been working for about 3 years so I might be naive. But the basic premise I stand by is to just take care of your own business and make sure your boss knows what projects you're working on currently etc...
I had 2 guys that were direct reports to me. Both were complete pricks. I just kept my boss updated in written emails of their fuckups. They hung themselves and got booted. I just kept documentation.

I quit. I worked at one place for almost 4 years and one day, when it was really busy, I quit. And I wouldn't stay long enough to train anyone for my job. Stupid jerks.

We got rid of her. We complain to managment and there was enough against her to get rid of her. We are one Yippy Skippy Happy Firm now.

I have the co-workers that think they're the boss. The adage, "too many cooks spoil the soup" applies in my office. Everybody wants to make sure everybody else is doing their job, and they conflict because of it. I have a decent ranking and a little bit of tenure, but I don't get in my co-workers' faces if they do something wrong or if they're not doing anything, period.

I had one co-worker that was so mean to me. He would like, demand all sorts of ridiculous things and then threaten me with my job if I couldn't get to them. So I threw away his mail and faxes.

My evil co-worker usually just sits in his cubicle, stroking his chin, looking determined with a raised eyebrow. He doesn't work on his projects, but instead imagines diabolical plans to rule the world...or...whoever is in his cubicle at the time. He wears long, flowing, black robes with a HUGE red colar with flames on it.
His name? King.
His job: Evil Mastermind.
But...in all his 50+ years on this earth...he has YET to dominate anyone...including his wife. But he schemes and plans for the day he will eventually bring a wrath, the likes of which no one has ever SEEN!!! (...most likely to a small child...in diapers...)

So when's "VBKao is Nicole Ritchie" day?
I'm seriously wondering that myself.

i just close my door. because i have my own office. and they don't.
I work with three of my boss' bridesmaids. As you can imagine, they are all incompetent and truly believe they are above the rest of us despite the seniority I have on them.
I just think of the day when I can set fire to the building and walk away.

That would be what you're expecting.
I'm more original than that.

I can tell you what a coworker-friend did, when she was layed-off by the evil boss:
Coded a series of programs so that they displayed "...ass..." on the screen.
She didn't deserve to be let go. For one, I had less seniority.
Today, my boss cried again. And again. And again. It's fucking embarrassing. And when she's miserable, everyone has to be miserable. She closeted herself in her corner office with her bridesmaids, Mrs. Teapot (her tea brewing cart), and a stupid meditation tape. They're off having a pity party with the door closed while the rest of us are twiddling our thumbs because we need them to sign checks and contracts. She made all her bridemaids the VPs and Directors of each division.
Pardon my potty mouth. She makes us all crazier.
