Amusing site I came across... though I think most of the people on it have been talked about on YW... still... sort of a fun little comprehensive read.

Why the * does Iva Toguri D'Aquino have the special honor of being listed under "10 People who are Asian, but we wish they weren't... Hey, where's #10?"

There's an even more extensive list at EurasianNation.com.

Did you know that Cate Beckinsale is one-eighth Burmese? I didn't.

What surprises me more than Phobe Cates being part-asian is that she is 40 already.

She looked hot in the 80's but I have no idea how she looks like now.
It's been long since the last time I saw a pic of her.

Tamlyn Tomita was also hot in the 80's, but now she looks too old. She doesn't even resemble to what she looked before

Bah, I knew all these, except maybe Ben Kingsley (no surprise, tho) or Nicole Scherzinger (Nicole who?). The one they really missed was Persian Farrokh Bulsara (http://myweb.lsbu.ac.uk/~stafflag/freddiemercury.html) (aka Freddie Mercury).

Oh my god, YATTA made me laugh so much.

Anyways, I was shocked about Dean Cain being half-Japanese, same thing with Mark Paul Gosselaar. However, I did know that The Rock and Greg Louganis were Samoan.

What's up with YATTA?

Lolz, first time I saw them was watching J-durama on a Saturday night. The group are members from this one show, Silly Go Lucky. I really dunno the real deal with them but it seems like a passing fad for the comedy troupe.

The one part that gets me is when Dwayne responds back to one of them "I'm an educated black man, your worst nightmare!", then the applause starts. It seemed kinda corny when I first saw it, but I guess it did have some relevance.

That's the show she's on now? Last time I heard she was the voice of the female cat in that animated movie Cats Don't Dance...LOL. It was eerie seeing a black girl with that much of a southern drawl, man.

You've never seen "A Different World"? It's an old sitcom that was a spin-off from the Cosby show that was popular in the early to mid 90's. It took place on a black college campus.

ya know, had Lisa Bonet not left the show after like the first or second season, i'm sure Dwayne woulda ended up marrying her. they'd be much cuter together.

I thought Whitley was better. Lisa's character had no real impact on the style of the show and it got better when she left. And Whitley's repressed sexual urges for Dwayne gave it an "edge."

Remember the hapa girl he was dating (half Black/half Japanese) who got into a fight over him with Whitley at his apartment and then his mother (Patti LaBelle) broke it up? Classic, classic show dat iz....

I didn't like The Cosby Show. Aside from its excruciatingly dull "humor," I think it really reinforced the Black lightocracy caste system. While most of the guys were fairly dark and clearly fuller-African, almost all of the female characters were hi-yella mixed-mulattoes.

Well, if you're talking about the Cosby Show instead of Different World, the only "hi yella" women on the show (I can recall that weren't minor cast members) were Denise (Lisa Bonet), Sandra (Sandra LeBoeuf) and Raven Symone's character as a child. Different World had all sorts of tones going on up in there...

Everyone else had "paperbag" to dark-skinned complexions. That being said, during the time it came out, there was a sort of light skinned vs. dark skinned "war" going on in the Black community, so in an indirect way you could probably infer that to the show, but I think Cosby's reins on the finished product was a little too sophisticated for that ideology to ever be direct, especially considering Cosby wasn't "light" to begin with.

I wouldn't say "fuller-African," but that's another topic, I guess.

Besides that, I think his show was pretty representative of a Black-American family in terms of skin tone.

Shows today are weird, though. It does seen that the men in the families can be of any shade (but often mid-to-dark), but the woman and daughters are almost always light. This happens even in the cartoons, like the Proud Family.

A recent exception to this phenomenon is the Tracy Morgan show where the wife is an average complexion.

There are other exceptions, but what was stated above does seem to be the trend.

You know something, as much as we can talk about the dearth of Asian/Asian-American actors/actress in the media, you never see many dark-skinned Asians either, with the exception of maybe Tia Carrere, who is the only really natural (minus suntan) brown-skinned Asian popular media star I can think of...unless we're still checking Kiana Tom....
