View Full Version : Catwoman movie starring Halle Berry

Halle is a beautiful, beautiful actress, and has talent...but superhero movies are not her forte, I'm sorry. I know I should withhold judgment until the movie comes out, but I'd rather have Michelle Pfeiffer in her late 40's in the original costume come back than look at this. They have all these comic books to use as references and won't even go with the original costume...ridiculous. http://www.x3movie.net/catwomanhires.jpeg

what in god's name is that? that's not catwoman... that doesn't even vaguely resemble any catwoman costume...
that's just... cat-slut... is that a bicycle helmet on her head?
but... it's not like michelle pfeiffer's catwoman costume resembled anything in the comic.

Yeah, the one from Batman Returns was kinda like S&M, u got me there  . But they had the basic look of it down moreso than this one. The only recent thing to get the look of the DC heroes right has been the WB animated series.

Yeah, I checked it out. It was a re-run from last season, where GL meets up with his former commander and booty call, Katla. They got away with quite a bit on this one for a cartoon...Katla was busted out with the backless and front-less J.Lo top, and Flash made a joke about impotence  And Hawkgirl was jealous as hell of her, of course.

They finally got together a couple of episodes ago. GL had gotten hurt and took care of him. At the end they stopped pussy footing around and he took off her mask and they kissed.

yeah... i thought it was a new episode, which is why hawkgirl not just whooping katla's ass confused me. I thought katla was hot... but hawkgirl is hotter.
john stewart is a pimp. PIMP! PIMP! PIMP!!
:D
back to halle berry -- does anyone know if she's just a psycho in a catsuit in this movie? does it bear *any* resemblence to her comic?

Oh, yeah...you didn't see that part when she smacked GL on the ass when she convinced him to go back to his training? And you know how they've been through different Catwomen in the series? They're kinda following suit with this, to an extent. Having her be a lone jewel thief at first, then getting granted the power of Catwoman.

... 'power' of Catwoman? what now? I was pretty sure Catwoman had no powers. She's all training and athleticism... no power. I'm not sure if maybe an older version of Catwoman had powers? but I remember the whole Tim Burton movie thing, I wasn't sure had a comic book counterpart.

Well, not exactly powers...more like she gains the athletic prowess and the rapport with cats...stuff like that, I think. I don't know where the hell I got powers from

They've changed characters over the years, like with Batgirl and Green Lantern, who are both currently a vietnamese girl and black man, respectively. They're making like, Selina Kyle is the original Catwoman, but this one is picking up the torch.
hmmm...is she only wearing panties?

is *that* what they're doing. so basically, it's nothing more than a vehicle for halle berry to show off her 'hotness'...
whatever. i really don't want to see this now.
oh, and the helmet thing is probably the most in-keeping with the catwoman costumes. many of her costumes have covered her hair... except the purple one which had long flowing curly black hair, and her current costume, which, with the goggles up, shows a tuft of short black bangs.

If it has nude scenes of Halle a la Swordfish, I'm sure the critics won't be able to keep fanboys away.

that was the most pointless nude scene ever. and a very unattractive shot of her boobies. she could have *easily* done that scene with a bikini top, it was totally *unnecessary*

Yeah, I know..that was the only reason i went to see American Pie back in '99...yes, I'm ashamed. And you're right about the Lanterns...we were in here discussing Justice League and all that, I got my comic and tv show universes mixed up. You can remove some of my karma for that little blunder.

hahahaha... it's okay... it took me a second to remember that too. kyle's been gone so lng, and his comic sucks so much ass. I like john stewart better, tho kyle's comic book artist thing made for cooler ring creations.
john stewart is better on the team. they already have the fun naiive guy with flash (less so in the comic) so it made sense to bring john in.
but oh my god, the recent JLA issue sucks hardcore. I'm thinking of dropping it, it was so bad.

I reiterate, Halle and comic movies do not mix. I didn't care for her as Storm(that lightning stirkes a toad line was horrible.) I would've put Angela Bassett in that role. She looks more like an African goddess to me, and Storm was not short, she was closer in height to Cyclops.

True, true....but in the X-Men Evolution series and even in Ultimate X-Men, they went kinda crazy with the ages. Storm, Wolverine, and Beast are all adults, whereas the rest of them are teens. And one of the recent issues of Ultimate X-Men has an adult Logan hugely attracted to a 16 year old Jean Grey...and he tries to kill Cyclops in order to be with her. Granted, that's how their storyline is, but it just seemed strange, man.

Yeah, I do remember they advertised one episode on one of the entertainment websites with simply, "New episode - Hoshi in the shower!" And one of the earlier shows did have T'Pol and one of the male crew members having to inexplicably spread lotion on each other's nekkid bodies to keep some kinda disease from infecting them.

an invisible plane?
a rope that makes u tell the truth?
ugh, i guess she was popular cuz of the way she dresses or soemthing but to me to make a character classic they gotta have consistent, make-sense powers not willy nilly random powers.
which brings me to that stupid show Tru Calling (why didnt they just call it "7RV K@11iNG" while they were at it?) okay a girl who talks to the dead? maybe. a girl who can go back in time? maybe. but together that is one of the most awful premises i have ever heard of.

Yeah, they've been trying to get that one off the ground for a minute, the Wonder Woman one. She's the only one of the big three (Supes, Bats, and Diana herself) that hasn't had a big screen movie. They've been talking about Chyna from the WWE, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Connolly, and other actresses. The only one that they're considering who I think might work is Monica Belluci from the Matrix, since she has that mediterranean greek look that WW is supposed to have, and the rest of the choices are either too small or too big to be her.

i can see why they'd think Chyna but she is DAMN manly i hate to say it. monica might work though i think her age is starting to show a lil (like in matrix for example). beautiful woman tho.
sandra bullock? ugh no. "Wuh wuh wuh wait, so ur ur urr saying that I, I have the powers of of an invisible plane? what am i sposed to do with an invisible plane?!? and..." yeah u get the idea

I think Chyna is perfect ... she actually does have the physique that DC is leaning towards now. WW is an empowered female figure, so she's not slight or anything. She's actually taller than Batman, almost as tall as Superman, and really broad shouldered.

Sandra Bullock would suck so horribly I refuse to even address it. Jennifer Connolly would doe-eye us to death. And Monica Belluci might play the role too 'sensuously'... I doubt she could capture that feminist quality that says 'fuck what men think, I am Amazon'.

Sandra Bullock would suck so horribly I refuse to even address it. Jennifer Connolly would doe-eye us to death. And Monica Belluci might play the role too 'sensuously'... I doubt she could capture that feminist quality that says 'fuck what men think, I am Amazon'.
I know this chick that posts on YW by the name of kittygirl that would be perfect for the role.

I still think the best superhero movie is Superman...(which they're--Warner Bros.-- is still trying to get off the ground....a remake that is).
Yeah, that is still the definitive one, hands down. When you can't even get a decent script together, you know there's problems. They have so many directions they could go with all the DC characters, but WB just doesn't know how to handle their properties.

OK, this is the basic synopsis for the new Catwoman according to that Coming Soon website...which does not sound promising
-Directed by mono-monikered French newcomer Pitof, this reported $100 million ''Catwoman'' tells the tail -- er, tale -- of meek graphic designer Patience Philips (Berry), who, after tussling with her boss (''The Matrix Reloaded'''s Lambert Wilson), finds herself endowed with superkitty abilities. ''The concept is to [give] the character powers, but make her as [normal] as possible so we can relate to her,'' explains Pitof, who got his first taste of Hollywood in 1997 as visual-effects supervisor on ''Alien Resurrection.'' ''She's not [totally] superhuman. She can jump, she can see at night, she has enhanced hearing, and she's very fast.'' All of which she uses to enthrall her badge-wearing beau (Benjamin Bratt) and lick her enemies, specifically a certain blonde who is no stranger to playing the bad kitty. ''There will be a big fight between the delicious little pussycats,'' reveals Stone. And Berry's stealthy creature doesn't just claw and pounce: She practices a form of Brazilian martial arts called capoeira, and -- hold on to your hair balls -- even prances. ''It's definitely more edgy, more reflective of the times,'' promises Berry. ''We just shot a dance scene that is really exciting. She's in touch with her sexuality, thinking 'Damn! I look good! I should enjoy this!' Catwoman is all about self-empowerment.'' That, and belly-baring leather suits.
and regardless of how much Halle does it for me, this suit still makes me wanna sue the filmmakers

Capoeira is one pussy-ass martial arts...sorry! As for Halle's shredded pants - why did they stop the shredding in the crotch area? Be consistent! Go all the way! The helmet does suck...they should have made the back of it mor form fitting like Michelle Pfeiffer's in Batman Returns. By the way, what's with the Halle bashing??? My god, this woman is gorgeous, can act and she gets starring roles where other women let alone other non-white women can't get...geez, she is a bit of a ditz but then again, most of Hollywood is. I'm expecting Catwoman to be a Daredevil level of movie - letdown but still entertaining.

As soon as Spider-Man hit it, they decided to just go all out. Already for this year they have Spidey 2, the Punisher, and Man-Thing(didn't eve know who he was till i checked a comic site...kinda like Swamp Thing, only bigger). Thing is, they're trying to do some of these on budgets that aren't as big, and it's not working out. Not every comic book can translate to real life, because the stuff is just too outlandish.

Last year, Catwoman was being filmed in my town, Surrey.
Other little-known factoids about the building in Surrey used as a prop in the film:
The office building for the bad guys' enterprise is actually the Central City Towers.
The designers neglected to add solar heating to their design because of the cosy deal they have with the hydro corporation formerly known as BC Hydro.
Off-topic factoid: Terasen, or whatever it is know as now, sold a lot of electrical units to California during the brownout of 2002.
Near the end of her catwoman stint, Hale Barry ended up in Vancouver General Hospital for unspecified soft tissue injuries suffered in a risky stunt.
Off-topic rant: I bet somebody paid for an MRI scan and a private room, the amount of money that could have sent about 4 patients from emergency to actual treatment at about $30,000 per patient. So please! Encourage Hollywood to film in B.C. using accident-prone actors i.e. the foolish ones who do their own stunts. That way, our healthcare system will benefit when a famous movie star jumps the queue. Hell it beats private healthcare!
I feel that without seeing the movie that Catwoman is a case where an unhealthy obsession turns into a heroine fantasy sequence. Rather than collecting 123 cats and crowding them into a suburban home, the heroine of this flick goes out and fights crime.
Off-topic aside: Batman became the caped crusader because he witnessed his parents death by some crazed robber who shoots them with the gun he threatened them with.
His faithful butler doesn't question Batman's motives, is almost as good at most martial arts as Bruce Wayne, and sometimes even makes excuses for why the millionaire is sometimes "indisposed". Meanwhile he's tracking down his parents' killer, befriending Dick Grayson, whose parents the Flying Graysons died when they trapeze holding them mysteriously snapped, and helping Grayson find his parents' killers by giving him the minor hero role of Robin.
Later on Grayson resents all this rise to riches, and shows his working class roots by making radical costume changes and fighting with Batman/Bruce Wayne because of quite a heavy load of personal issues.
Can you now sympathize with these superheroes? The new Robin in the cartoon show Teen Titans, with theme song by PuffiYuri&Aki (or is that Shonen Knife? Please correct me), has a personality disorder rooted in anger -- maybe because he lost his parents recently?
If you do go see Catwoman, it's all action but underneath it's boiling over with psychosocial issues everyone goes through.
Hale however looks like a black Twiggy cum Barbie Doll.
A perfect attractant for straight men with latent homosexual urges. Hence the manufactured obsession with muscular women who are thin, bigboobed, and kick ass.

...
Comic-book purists may find themselves up in arms over the changes to and politicizing of the Catwoman lore. Parents may be equally alarmed by the film's hyper-sexualized reconceptualization of the character, which makes Pfeiffer's leather-clad lynx seem almost virginal. Of course, Berry, cracking her whip as she prowls around in a belly- and bust-baring dominatrix get-up should work like catnip on the film's intended male audience.
Parents may also find the movie's moral ambiguity problematic, specifically the blurred distinction between right and wrong. Apparently "catwomen are not contained by the rules of society," as Conroy's character says.
Viewers looking for character depth along the line of the far superior "Spiderman 2" will be sadly disappointed. Though Pitof displays an undeniable visual flair, the characters in "Catwoman" remain as two-dimensional as the comic-book pages from which they sprang.
Berry fills the title role purrrfectly. Stone also seems to make the most of her take-the-money-and-run performance, especially during her climactic catfight with the feral feline.
Still, as far as summer popcorn movies go, "Catwoman" is hardly the cat's meow.
Due to recurring stylized violence and an implied sexual encounter, the USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is A-III -- adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 -- parents are strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
I like hyper-sexualized.
I'm intrigued about finding out what "puss-to-puss" puss-to-puss resuscitation is.

haha reminds me, if u've ever read a christian movie review site it goes like this
OFG - Offenses to God
TLNIV - Taking Lord's name in vain
UCS - use of a child in sexually suggestive poses
CDA - Child disrepecting parents and/or authority
and the Lord said unto Bob in Gospel 5:13 "thou SHALT shake thine ass"

my guess is it'll get critically savaged but people will watch anyway cuz its halle berry and by law you must love halle berry even if you watched Executive Decision and thought she was "alright"

I've gotten myself psyched to see this movie. Well somewhat but still, a turnaround from when I was previously opposed to it. Although that outfit has got to go.

i'm disappointed it's PG-13. R-rated would at least give us some hope of a sex scene. A sex and murder scene like in Basic Instinct would rock.

The gang (the whole unholy herd of us street thugs) is going to try to meet up for this. So there is a 50% chance of me seeing this.

The designers neglected to add solar heating to their design because of the cosy deal they have with the hydro corporation formerly known as BC Hydro.
Off-topic factoid: Terasen, or whatever it is know as now, sold a lot of electrical units to California during the brownout of 2002.
note: BC HYDRO is still known as BC HYDRO. Terasen is the company formerly known as BC GAS. Which one sold EU's to CA during brownout of 2002? Sounds messy.
