John Woo says he wants to do a film that explains Chinese culture to viewers in the West.
"I hope to unite talent from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong who can really act out our personality, our culture, and our characteristics in one movie," Woo said Thursday.
Woo said his wish was fueled by what he says is a lack of understanding of Asian culture in the West.
"I've been living overseas for so long, and (I see) so many people misunderstand our Chinese culture. Now that I have an opportunity to work in Hollywood, I often feel I can serve as a bridge" between cultures, he said.
Woo said that many people in the West think that Chinese people are all the same and he's often confused with another ethnic Chinese director, Taiwan's Ang Lee, best known for Oscar-winning "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Woo said with a laugh that he frequently gets compliments for "Crouching Tiger" and Lee's most recent film, "The Hulk."
