Garbage ... no, I mean the theme sung by Garbage. I quite liked the Die Another Day remixes though.

Ugh! I think that one's got to be worst, next to Sheryl Crow's wheedling meandering.
Shirley Bassey set the, uh, gold standard with "Goldfinger," with "Diamonds Are Forever" following closely behind.
For the "modern era," I'd go with Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only," with Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" on its heels.

I much prefer the original Goldeneye theme, by k.d. Lang, to Sheryl Crowes below par 'effort'.

unfortunately, i only remember the recent theme songs ... the ones since Pierce Brosnan has signed on.
The World is Not Enough by Garbage was great too. That, and Goldeneye, "sounded" like they fit the Bond feel/theme. Maybe it's the dark brooding kind of music?

Live and Let Die. The melting skulls was a nice touch. And it was Bond's first foray into Africa, which was decidedly creepy.

Unfortunatly I'm old enough to remember a lot of the old themes when they were the new themes. {:O/
Goldeneye was by the chap who does the music to all the Luc Besson films (Leon, Fifth Element etc.

Hands down, "Nobody Does it Better" by Carly Simon is the best song out of the bunch. Live and Let Die is second. "View to a Kill" has got to be 3rd.

It's one of those "Bond tradeoffs":
Great song. Sucky film.
