don't know about the soundtrack. but that film was definitely not one of Hou Hsiao-Hsien's best works.

yeah i didn't quite understand it either. but Hou Hsiao Hsien makes "deep" movies.

This is an old review but it's a pretty good analysis. My friend was a bit confused too.... I guess he was expecting more of a linear storyline. I still liked the movie and the soundtrack was awesome... at least to me.
