I saw a report on the Ipod last week 12/31 on CNN. I was at a pizza parlor so I didn't catch the whole report, but apparently Apple was selling Ipods for $100? Was I trippin? I was searching CNN.com but I didn't find anything regarding the report.

my friend had a second generation that i'd tinker with all the time. it's great if you can afford it. they're pretty well designed. are you planning on getting one?

Not me myself, but my friend was expressing interest in obtaining one. I saw that thing on CNN and thought it was just a mad deal so it might be worth taking a look at. I'm not too much of an Apple person, but 10gigs is 10gigs. That's some crazy storage. Too bad it wasn't more like a handheld pc.

There have been rumors of an "iPodJr" for about $100... http://www.macrumors.com/

MacWorld is on Jan 6... if it's true it'll be announced then... but I don't see how they could offer such a device... except as a loss leader for iTunes. Except for the fact that iTunes doesn't really make money. Maybe if they wanted to dominate the market. But that's not Apple's style.

the things is, the mini-i would require either a minidrive or flashmem, and apple has said a long time that they will never, ever over their dead bodies use flashmem. on the other hand, the comp that delivers the minidrives said they have not had any contact with apple. so you figure it out.

I'm trying to decide between a run-of-the-mill MP3 player and an iPod. Do I really need a few gigs of space? Nice to have? Or must have? Decisions decisions.

you could always get the rio 1.5 gig. can't remember the name, but ive played around with it and its damn fine...and small. now, i want the karma <3 20gigs for the price of ipod's 10 gig. personally, i think the ipod's a bit overrated. sure, it's pretty and all, and the touch-sensitive slidy-disc thing is cool, but all i want is a decent looking mp3 player for a reasonable price that can hold *all* of my cds. the karma interface is good enough for me, and fits perfectly in my hand. the left-handed setting is kinda funky though (flips screen so you can use left thumg to control ljog dial). of course, the new pvps coming out are pretty cool too. video ipod, where are you?

I've heard that the Macworld conference will center on iPods, and that the iPods will be released in different colors, and Apple will release the mini iPods starting @ $100. I think this mini iPod rumor is true. Apple is trying to corner the market for mp3 players, and hoping that their iPod line up will sell like crazy. And all those users will be downloading songs from iTunes Music Store, and they will dominate the mp3 market as well. But I guess we'll see soon...

by vanilla, do you mean white?

bluemonq
01-05-2004, 09:20 AM
vanilla, white, same thing...actually, no. as much as i hate to admit it, a vanilla ipod would be sort of nice. what they really should do is make the outside snap-on/off to change the colors.

You don't need a gold one for that...just take a regular white one and glue it to a big clock.

Steve Jobs announced the mini iPods at MacWorld today.

4gb in different colors for $250.

Not quite what the rumors were saying, but as unrealistic as they were, it's still surprising what Apple is doing.
