I started my alternator rebuild the other day because I thought mine was going out. However, it was just a loose belt (dUh!). Anyhow, I'm still going to do my rebuild, so.. .does anyone have a source for bearings? I have this huge stinking bearing (not wide, it's almost like 2 inches deep)... I went to autozone.. but their "professionals" couldn't help me. *slaps forehead*

Anyhow.. I swapped the brushes from my other spare alternator (the old brush only had about 6mm left --damn! no wonder it zapped my battery). So all I have left are the bearings.... (I've had an alternator that seized up on me before so . . . since I have it apart, I might as well swap it out now.

sorry for the rantings, here's the bottom line:

I NEED BEARINGS!

buying a junk alternator and using its constiuent parts will only postpone the likelihood of bearing failure in the future.

bearings WILL seize on you, mainly when the rubber surround becomes hard and brittle from the heat generated by the motor. That's when you start to get alternator squeal....

Bearings must be new because an alternator rebuild is only as good as the parts used to rebuild it.
