Does your choice of whether to go to a certain event, or which event to go to ever/often/usually depend on who will be the DJ?
If so, is it mostly because:
a) you want to see and hear someone in particular
b ) you just know the music will be to your liking, both in quality and style, but don't care who's playing it (by the same token, if you know a certain DJ is bad, you would stay away from where he/she/they is playing)
c) you know the DJ and can get comped as a result
?
Is this any different for you between Asian parties and clubs/parties in general?

it only matters who's spinning if it's trance/d'n'b. otherwise i couldn't care less.

my only reason for going to a party is who's on the lineup. unless its free.... im always down for a free party.

it only matters if its house or breaks.
and if not either of those then unless my friend is throwing it you can find me at home with some books studying like mad. ;)

as far as hip-hop goes, only underground is really worth listening to. they always sound more innovative and different w/ their beats and lyrics.
some good underground I've liked: Binary Star, Dead Prez, Dilated Peoples, Mountain Brothers, Jedi Mind Tricks. Have fun finding some of their stuff in the post-napster/post-audiogalaxy days. <_<

I think after I started DJ'ing out more frequently, I became a little more snobbish about where I go clubbing. The last year or so, I've tried to change that mentality and go where there's more of a loyal, enthusiastic following of clubbers; places that go off regardless of who's spinning. Of course, I still enjoy Spundae in LA which is about as big of a superclub as LA has seen in ages.
I also like going to Pure@Sugar in Santa Monica, Basic@King King and some other small places which names escape me now.
