In the tread about Justin Timberlake’s new restaurant, Aaron Carter was referred to as a “wigga.” People like to throw this term around. But isn’t it as racist and derogatory as “nigger?”
Of course it is. This isn’t a term created by blacks as a term of endearment towards whites. It’s a term created by whites to put down other whites who they feel “dress black”, “act black”, “talk black”, or hang around with blacks. I can’t remember ever hearing a black person say the term. Wigger is short for white nigger. I don’t think many of the people who are comfortable calling someone a wigger would be as comfortable calling them a white nigger.
I get a similar feeling when I hear wigger as when I hear nigger.

Yes, but technically to those "in the know" in hip-hop, it's n*gga and wigga...subtle but big difference there...

I understand the difference between nigga and nigger. What I am saying is that as far as I know wigga is strickly a derogatory term. Therefore, the comparison between nigga and nigger doesn't apply.

well both the terms "ngger" and "wgger" implies that there are difference in race, so both are racist.
But, I think wgger is a term that is used as a joke, and look at it this way.... a white person can't call a black person a "ngger" while a black person can call a white person a wgger. So, I dont think wgger is as bad as ngger.

There is no term that stings whites as badly as specific slurs sting specific minorities.
In my opinion, no.

Saying a person is a wigger is the short-cut way of saying that they are acting like a nigger.
A shot at niggers and wiggers alike.
I don't use the term.

Just call him a washcloth then.
Someone that rubs off whatever is closest.

Technically I think it's racist. Is it terribly offensive to white people? I doubt it.

But it should be terribly offensive to non-whites!

Shrug, I don't even use that slang myself. I think whether or not its offensive is based on how its being said. Just my personal opinion. But there are certain times where I haven't been offended being called a chink. Judge whether or not the person is using it at you in an offensive manner.

The last time I used the term was in high school but soon regretted it. I don't use it at all anymore. Frankly i've rejected any form of hip-hop culture/slang from my lifestyle. I used to be all into it but I realized 99% of it is pure unadulterated shit.

yigga or aznigga? pretty catchy if u ask me. better than chigga cuz it refers to all asians and doesn't sound like an annoying bug in grass.
A shot at niggers and wiggers alike.
I also get the idea that it's a slam at African Americans.

racial slurs become a bit more complicated when they're generated by the one general class of power in this country. it's easy to say that anything race-based is racist, but wigger has absolutely no power and history in itself, as the word 'nigger' has - the two really can't be compared. if you think that wigga is insulting because it implies that "dressing black" or "acting black" is itself degrading - well then that's your perogative. but i thought wigga came around to make fun of all of the white suburban fools who thought that by dressing and acting to what they believe is "black" (i.e through a stereotypical media), that they were somehow being gangsta and hard.

prof. frink
that's what i thought, and i agree wholeheartedly. wigger was supposed to describe "straight thuggin'" white ppl. and is not the white counterpart of a "nigger". or so i thought.

“Nigger” is a term used towards Blacks, so I was using the phrase “acting like a nigger” to mean “acting Black”. . .whatever that is to mean.
I agree with those who find the term “wigger” disparaging towards both Whites and Blacks.

So, would acting like Colin Powell or Bryant Gumbel make me a yigga? What if I acted like Eminem?

Wigger isn't a five year old term that came about as hip hop moved to suburbia. It has been around for a while. Some whites were called this for having black friends. Some were called this for liking "black" music. And certainly some were called this for dating blacks. Not much different than being called a nigger lover, except wigger has become based more so on outward appearance.

huh? it might make you a white-washed wanna be...
if you acted like eminem, you'd be a wigga wannabe, I guess...
(oh, and no, eminem doesn't refer to himself as a wigga. it's seen as kind of derogatory).

At least from when I've observed the term used, I don't think it is acting street. A lot of times, yes, but many times, no.
So, would acting like Colin Powell or Bryant Gumbel make me a yigga?
Sheesh. Where have you been?
They don't "act Black."
Didn't you know that when a Black person doesn't fit into the cookie-cutter image of Blacks, they are acting White?
Acting like them would make you nothing but an Almond Joy wannabe.

anyway i wouldnt say the w word around blacks for sure. is it racist? iono, depends cuz obviously the way people see it the fact that whites are involved means nobodys being oppressed. maybe it is a loaded word that should be stayed away from but my point was who does aaron carter think he is?
