View Full Version : Race & Ethnicity in 200 years

I was talking to my friend not too long ago, and he said that he believed that in 200 years, most people in the world (he didn't say America, but the world) will have olive skin, wavy dark hair, and brown eyes, i.e. everybody will be of mixed race. Do you find this to be true for the world? Or just America? And if so, what do you think will happen to the small handful of people of each "race" who are more than likely to NOT mix with other races................i.e. if everybody looks mixed, there will still be some blond-hair, blue-eyed, pale-skinned white people...............very dark-skinned, nappy-haired black people, and short, jet-black-haired Asians. So what will happen to them? Will they be considered "mutants" of some sort? Do you think it's a positive goal for the world to move to?
Personally, I don't think Earth will look like that in 200 years. Maybe a thousand, but then again who the hell can predict what will happen that far ahead? In 200 years I definitely think America will look like that, and that most people will look very much the same. Somehow I don't feel that there will be necessarily one "culture" however; we see it happening now, some bi-racial people adopt one of their cultures, some adopt the other, still others embrace both. So I think we will still be a multi-cultural country, but we will all look very similar.

I think there will be more mixed race people in the world in 200 years, but I don’t think everyone would look the same. Nor do I think non-mixed people would be considered mutants.
Everyone would probably be judged according to the standards the socio-political future brings.
If that means the unmixed are on the top, they’d be seen favorably. If mixed are on the top, they’d be seen favorably. If society dictates that those light brown-skinned mixed people with straight hair are superior, they’ll be see as favorable.
Even if everyone were mixed, which I doubt would happen in the next 200 years, there will still be enough variation in phenotype to find something to judge people on.
So a positive goal to move towards?
Not yes. Not no.

So where exactly are the billions of people who live in countries which don't have mass immigration gonna find spouses of another ethnicity? In 200 years, more and more countries will be economically developed, so there would be no reason for people to be disrupting their lives and moving all over the world for a better life, so even if countries change to allow mass immigration, there's no guarantee anyone would come. And even if they could, who's to guarantee it wouldn't turn into another Latin American-style assortative mating situation ...

nuh uh, never gonna happen. u'd hafta assume that everyone will eventually drop their pre-conceived notions and negativity towards other people and breed like rabbits.
either that or the global warming will nuke our skin

I think so to a large degree - then whites will only obtain even more elite prize status - like in most mixed color-caste societites like Latin America/Brazil/India/etc...

Most people are already mixed, just not mixed with the same shit. Depends on what you consider 'pure' or 'unmixed'.

It's kinda hard for me to predict what will happen next week, much less what will happen in a year or a hundred years or more.

i don't think that in 200 yrs everyone will be mixed, but i do think they will be MUCH more mobile. with increased globalization, there would be a much higher percentage of ppl like those in europe (or and some in asia) that speak many languages and feel at home in several countries. and when they feel like getting a new job, it's no problem for them to drop their current one and move. and economics are only one reason for ppl to move around. i don't wish to reside in the south for my entire life and it is only tangentially related to money but heavily related to culture.
even in a thousand yrs, i think there will still be non mixed ppl b/c by then surely we will have semi-isolated settlements off the planet w/ different survival pressures. that means more chances for divergences to emerge in the isolated population.

In the world, I don't think there will be much IR relationships due to mono-racial culture. I don't see Japanese society accepting a black and asian couple anytime soon. Or a Middle Eastern/white couple in Saudi Arabia.
But I think in America there will be a whole lot more hapas, and it will be concentrated in the east coast, and the west coast. The midwest and southern areas will have some IR, but it will still be looked down on. IR relationships will be more between white and other minority races than between minority races, like black and asian. I think there will be more WM/non-WF couples initially, like we see now. Due to this, WF will begin to be more open to non-WM and see long-term IR relationships as acceptable.
Asians will be the most sought-after minorities in IR relationships due to the increasing Asian influence on American culture. Let's face it, we are slowly becoming the cultural leaders in America- pop music, fashion, anime, movies, food. The more our culture seeps into American culture, the more the barriers break down.

Look at the population in the various "stans" in central asia. They are a pretty racially mixed people with lots of asian, white russian, middle eastern, and african genes from thousands of years of assimilation. I think the world will look similar except with more brown skin tones. America might resemble Brazil's population in another 50 years.

I was under the impression that if any Asian society would be the most accepting of such a couple, it would be Japan.
Additionally....Ras_Farengi would definitely say otherwise
