because you think they like it?

and by cute, i'm also talking about silly, clumsy, ditzy, etc.

and if so, why do you think they like it? is there behavior on their part that reinforces your belief?

just curious. share!

Well, I actually don't....and I doubt they'd like me acting ditzy, clumsy or whatever cause its just not my thang...ya feel me?

but then again, I am a guy.

k, well, let's start by addressing the first part of what you said.

"why do women do that?"

can you please explain what you mean by "that"? in other words, what have you observed?

I usually get this from East Asian girls. There's like this faux cute act that they do, like they were little girls and hamming for the camera or something. I guess they're mimicking the pop culture that pervades Asian entertainment.

So stupid and annoying.

I'm not cute in any way. The guys I hang out with aren't into it, and I'm just not built that way. My roommate does act silly and dumb around her boyfriend, and it annoys me to no end. Especially when she talks in a high pitched squeal. Ugh.

Yeah asian fob girls do this a lot, mostly the japanese and chinese ones. You know, the ones that have been sheltered all their lives so they still act like a kid. I've notice they are also into that hello-kitty stuff and the thing that is Kasia's icon.

Personally, I don't really mind, but just don't act like your 10 years old.

Well, there is something that Koreans call egyo... it's kinda translated as charm, but in a cute and annoying sorta way. If you've ever watched Korean movies/TV and seen those girls acting all uppety and cute, yet sometimes annoyingly whiny and teasing you in an helpless sorta way... that's egyo

when the guy says, "No, we are not going to see Legally Blonde 2, and that's that!" the girl will say "Oppppppaaaaaaaaaaaaa~!" That's egyo. Smile a lil. Rub a lil. Whine a lil. It is a secretly enjoyable (to some men) method of cajoling and coaxing men.

I personally am not a fan, but I know a lot of guys that are.

hapakristina
12-11-2003, 04:36 PM
i'm still not sure what "acting cute" means though? i mean.. i'm kind of naturally clumsy in some ways. i laugh a lot and i have a way of being able to laugh at myself and i would like to think that i'm actually a fun/funny person to be around (haha.. someone on the boards IMed me lastnight. 15 minutes of chatting and we were busting up about our topic and just how candid i can be. basically, i'm not afraid to be honest and laugh at myself).. i definitely know i'm not totally girlie either. most guys find me to be a "one of the guys" type.. i can talk about sports with an understanding of the game as well as an interest to throw on some shoes and play a pickup game.

i really don't try to be anything when i'm around people. i'm just myself. some will like me, some won't. i think it'd be worse to know that someone doesn't like me and i'm not even being myself. so i just seek to try and be as down-to-earth and myself in every setting, some will like me.. some won't. can't please them all.

It's endearing if it doesn't annoy me. Actually, I prefer girls who are mature most of the time and also playful.

12-11-2003, 05:05 PM
I've been with a very mature girl before with really none of that cutesy stuff. In a way, I wish she acted cuter sometimes. I think it would've give me that small assurance I need in a day.

But I do agree that too much is just too much, especially when a girl makes it very obvious. I dunno, I'm always on the bus here at UCD, and I remember times where I'd just go *ugh* in my head when I heard a girl acting too cute with her bf or just some guy she's trying to impress. Annoys the hell out of me, or maybe I just wish I was that guy? ehh...not really.

Green_Circle
12-11-2003, 05:20 PM
I wouldn't half mind if she acted that way to me personally just to get the advantage. But if she acts that way all the time around all the guys then that means trouble. It has become part of her game and eventually, her personality.

Chester
12-11-2003, 08:51 PM
Since all the other guys are invading the thread, this is what I think: if a girl is hot enough, the ditz act might not be enough of a detraction to matter. But it's never a plus. Moronic incompetence is never an appealing trait. The reverse almost always is.

Deep, tragic pathos, however (i.e. Marilyn Monroe) does have a certain demented appeal to it.

i'm not korean... but my experience is that there isn't much a girl can't get a guy to do just by calling him "opah.."

anyway, i'm like the rest of the guys here. I find the whiny/high pitched voice thing extremely annoying. I usually associate it w/ spoiled.. princess type personality.

But there are 'cutsy' things that i don't mind when a girl does... y'know.. stuff that reassures me that she's the girl and i'm the guy type of thing.

Bleh... girls who try to act cute ALL the time irritate me. I mean, there are times when a girl will do something cute, or say something cute, but she never MEANT for it to be cute, and you can appreciate it. If you do things gracefully or in this way, "cute" and it's not on purpose, then you can appreciate it more. But if a girl goes out of her way to act the same thing ALL the time, it'll get annoying.

That's why I mention punting little baby golden retrievers over goal posts whenever a girl does that.

Oh yea... I hate the word "oppa". For further details, PM me, because it's just too damn embarassing to talk about. >_<

Used to know a girl who did that stuff on purpose, when she wanted somthing she'd flip the 'Hello Kitty' switch and be all whiney and mewing, but that was only because she needed to let Mr Oblivious (moi) know she really wanted something. I knew what it meant and it helped communication.

Well I guess it's just up to a matter of judgment or perception. I don't think that necessarily 'giving up everything' means that a girl is a better person than the guy who refuses to give up his guys, but maybe that's not what you were implying ^^ Offensiveness regarding the term 'ho' aside, the 'bros before hos' isn't just something guys like to throw around for fun (well...at least not to some guys like myself).

This acting-cute tendency is present in fugly as well as fyne women. Chances are they think that it will enhance their physical features or their appeal (in addition to conforming to societal standards), regardless of how attractive they perceive themselves to be.

of course. through my discussions with guys, though - even guys on this board - many of the older ones have stated that girls are typically slaves to men until they reach their mid-20's. until that age, they're always trying to find ways to become more attractive to men, etc. etc. i'm not saying that guys don't do the same - i'm just saying it isn't their main focus.

and even at later ages, men seem to focus more on their career while women are worried about finding a husband.

Height...just like the concept of 'race', is socially constructed i.e. the standards and how people are categorized differ from society to society.....but then again...we won't go there in this thread ^^ =P

But yea anyways, like, I'm 5'9" which is short for an average American guy, but average for an Asian guy, so it just depends.

I'm also 135 lbs, which is underweight in the US, about average or a little under probably in Korea or some other country that doesn't have as many fatasses as the US, and obese in Hong Kong (j/k).

well i dunno it's just from my observations....it could go either way I guess...a lot of my Asian friends are taller than me but a lot are also shorter but I don't think 5'9 is short for an Asian guy. Once again, often up to whoever decides what is 'average'.

Then again, you might be part of a younger generation where everyone is taller. I'm already 24...so I grew up during basically during the 80's and early 90's.

what are you talking about??? i think that the roles are dictated by our patriarchal society and - being social beings, many of us accept those roles. the purpose of this thread was for us to discuss whether we were aware of our acceptance of those roles. the first step? to admit that we sometimes try to act cute to impress guys.

AM talking about why you are mentiong such social candor/behavior roles that are bascially fueling the gender assignments of being a female. " all cute" how is that not a submissive role?

AWARE OF THOSE ROLES? so we are are talking about freewill of a woman who can be aware of sexual gender roles hence sexism that inculdes those gender roles

"act cute" being clusmy is cute? or is that a social acceptance role for a woman? can a man act cute? and be clusmt at sametime?

Because it doesn't fit well with your model. Yoiu want to be all girly but yet you want a man to treat you as an equal. how is that not a contradiction?

"and by cute, i'm also talking about silly, clumsy, ditzy, etc.

IF so why do YOU think men like that kind of "cute" behavior? why do you do this gender female role of being more submissive one instead of being more upfront with way you feel. WEll men most certainly like that kind of behavior , so are you acting out or responding to gender social cues?

acting cute is not girly? how does that fit for a man? It most certain not acting like a adult more like a childlike. You most indeed implied that . NO am only who would talk about it

you asked is " women of YW , do you act "cute " when around men or boys. Is the reason why you do such an act in this way?
I never said girls should act cute either, but more like why do they perform this behavior ?
