View Full Version : i've submitted myself to scrutiny

Okay, this isn't really a rant, but to open up a rant topic. Anne suggested I start it.
You all have seen the communities that rate people's looks on LiveJournal, correct? And you've all probably felt like, "Man, these people are so shallow, yada yada yada." The main point? Who is to say you are not a beautiful person? These people do not even know your personality. And when they deny you, man, they are brutal. And they say it's supposed to be fun?
Some of us YW members have "applied" and some of us have been denied (me, right now, from the looks of it, ha!).
No! Don't give me the butt stamp! Ahh!
Umm... I kind of lost my point or what I was trying to get at. Maybe someone else can guess what I'm trying to get at and articulate it better for me.

I noticed that some of them kind of team up together. Like a pack of hyenas. Can you hear them laughing?
I just don't want to look at the butt stamp.

WHY do u guys even bother? that rate-my-butt shit is so shallow. ever gone on those AIM today rate pic things? the highest anyone can get is 7 and its always the skinny blondes (or heavily madeup girls) who win the highest score. anyone who's a girl-next-door (in a realistic sense) gets 5 or below
guys are SHALLOW
which pic u submit anyway?
dont worry everyone in yw is family so even if u were ugly we wouldnt say so
and the thing about pictures is they are SOOOO unbelievably subjective. the angle of the face, lighting, etc. just a lil change can make a ugly woman pretty and vice versa.
all your pics are good tho
but you're best one is of course the flower in the hair

What's a girl-next-door? Like, literally? Next door?
plain jane, like instead of that super model in the cover of a magazine its the down to earth "homely" type u would see day to day
whats funny is go on the guy side of the rate my pic and they never get higher than a 5, clearly proving that girls are even shallower or there are more guys online

i don't feel bad for people that get harsh ratings on those sites. why? they asked for it. i mean, that's what they open themselves up for right? and i'm not saying that it's nice when others are so harsh, but there's no incentive to be "nice" to these random people online that they don't know or care about. so they are brutally "honest." the only thing i'm against is when the person didn't ask to be rated and may just be sharing a picture and people feel compelled to start bashing people's looks. that's not cool. but sites where people are asking to be rated and know they're being rated.. c'mon now.
yes, guys can be shallow and give harsh ratings. likewise, sometimes girls can be jealous and start nitpicking every single "flaw" about another girl that they feel threatened by. and then these people that get harsh ratings get all worked up and for what? did you go on a site that asks people to RATE YOU to just have your ego stroked and to be told you're hot? i mean, i'm on findapix.com but i don't have the rating option on. i did it to join the forums over there and meet new people. again, it's not about how i measure up with the others around me.. it's how i feel about myself.
people that open themselves up to such ratings.. no offense, but be prepared to take whatevers coming to you. you can either take it with a grain of salt or you can let a bunch of strangers that don't know you or what you look like in person be the basis of your self-esteem. anne, you're a pretty girl.. you certainly don't need a bunch of people to confirm that for you hun.

Dunno about those webrings or whateverz. Don't understand why you wanna get rated cause there's always some loser out there who's gonna be an ass and rate you and anyone else they feel like with the butt-stamp. Besides, the women on this message board look damn good imho.

livejournal, xanga, and others are all kinda of like self advertisements mixed with porn. I really dont understand why asians love blogging so much.
it depends on what you use your weblog for. i have a weblog and it's more for 1) recording moments of my life and being able to go back and remember these moments and 2) to share these moments with others that care to keep in touch and hear how things are going with me. hell, my mom's on xanga and my sister in law and my neice post on a weblog. they read mine and it's a form of just being in touch and knowing what's going on.
yes, i realize i could send e-mail and i realize that i could easily write in an offline journal.. but for me, considering that i type faster than i write and have others that don't necessarily have time to converse but may want to read up and see how things are.. it seems justified. it's not for everyone, but weblogs are really for individuals and whatever they choose to make of it.

The Fucking Best Asians
Welcome to the Alluring_Asians Community! A few things before you continue…
THE RULES
1. This community was created out of and for the purpose of pure vain fun. If anyone has a problem with this, he or she should strongly consider leaving/ignoring this community. No posts about how beauty is on the inside (this is generally known, implicit knowledge) and no bashing on moderators or community members (particularly out of retaliation for not getting accepted). NOTE: Arguing or insulting a mod will directly result in a banishment. If you get rejected, deal with it and take it for whatever you wish. GETTING REJECTED MEANS YOU ARE A FAILURE. JK. Keep in mind that beauty is subjective and everyone is seen differently. This is not a perfect system, and we do not claim that it is. So if you are indignant or self-righteous about beating THIS system, we STRONGLY recommend that you LEAVE.
You will be BANNED for:
a) Joining without ever posting your pictures.
b) Commenting without a stamp.
c) Posting fake or solely pseudo-professional photographs.
d) Deleting posts.
e) Not immediately removing yourself from the community if you are rejected.
f) Making comments that are threatening or completely out of line. Know your limits.
g) Not typing like a normal human being.
h) Not reading mod posts.
i) Removing yourself from the community after being accepted without informing the community or a mod.
2. The decision of whether or not a candidate may become a member is by the existing accepted members! Post your pictures under acceptable conditions, and wait for your stamp! Comment only in your own post. Commenting as a non-member in entries other than your own will result in an IMMEDIATE ban!
3. Nudity from minors is not permitted! For obvious reasons dealing with liability and legality (or lack thereof), no pictures with overexposure of the skin or genitals will be accepted. Those who post near/fully nude pictures when trying out will automatically get banned. Members who wish to post pictures but are not sure if they cross the line must get confirmation from one of the moderators! There will be no exceptions to this.
4. The pictures that you use when trying out MUST BE YOURS. We will be very cautious and thorough about the candidates with recently created journals, differing pictures, etc. Also, use an lj-cut to post your pictures! You may leave one un-cut as some sort of preview, but that is all. Make sure your pictures are crystal clear – don’t expect to get YES votes if they are anything otherwise. Remember, LINKS to your pictures are unacceptable! They must be posted directly onto the entry.
5. Pictures should be different angles of mostly your face, but one or two body shots is HIGHLY recommended! We want to see the entire package, not just one portion of it! But no one wants to read your autobiography.
6. Text-only entries is a privilege for the mods, and only the mods!
7. Any questions regarding the community should be IMed to one of the moderators. If you do not get stamped within 48 hours, you may contact one of the moderators via AIM. Do not post again requesting a stamp! Another entry will result in an immediate ban.
Accepted Stamp: http://pic3.picturetrail.com/VOL17/1092045/2469201/30168147.jpg
Rejected Stamp: http://pic3.picturetrail.com/VOL17/1092045/2469201/30168145.jpg
If accepted, please remember to click your stamp to be added to the Accepted Members List.
8. Members are not permitted to insult fellow members. This community will stick together. This is unquestionable.
9. “Drama” created in or because of this community must remain within the community. Harassment in anyone's private journal in regards to this community will result in an immediate ban.
10. Relax. It's not the end of the world if you don't make it. Not everyone can be beautiful.

I bet those Live Journal people are just as sad in real life as they are online. Low self-esteem and the like. Why put yourself up for judgement from people who aren't even fit to rule on the results of a BINGO game? Sheer lunacy, I'd say. I should send them a letter with a big "FUCK YOU! I can have you, your friends, your family, and your pets killed tomorrow" message and then we'll see how they'll react, shitheads that they are.
I can't stand people who think they've got the right to judge how others are and should be. It's the antithesis of good taste and non-discrimination. It's individuals like the ones on LJ with their "exclusive" clubs that lend even more self-esteem problems to young women who are already being bombarded with negative images of self-perception through the media.

My rambling for the day:
I believe that we are conditioned in this society to praise the beautiful ones and gawk at the not-so-gorgeous ones. I just don’t agree to how people are judged just for their looks from the start and depending on what “rate” you are, determines the want for a possible further closeness towards that individual. I’d like to see it in a view of faceless shadows. Shadows as in we, the people. Then get to know and learn more about that individual. And from then on, their face slowly appears through your own vision. It is then, that you will see the beauty from within.
IMHO, a face only determines identity and uniqueness. It should have nothing to do with the comparison of beauty among others.
Blah. Dreamers float in a different galaxy.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Little 14 yr olds need to bash on older women cuz they're insecure about their looks? HAHAHAHA!!!
Omg, seriously I'm getting a big ass kick out of this, because I remember these comments made to my face when I was younger. Now that I'm older and much more "decent" looking, I realize that I don't care to give a twit about what other people think of me. I just go along with the mentality of Fugliness, because it's the new beauty.
Why?
Cuz if people still like you when you're Fugly, you've got that much MORE to offer. =P

it's quite a phenomenon. =p it's easy for us to bash on people we don't know - and much harder to say the same for people we do. often times, once we start to get to know a person, they get progressively better-looking, too.

I totally agree! I definitely think personality defines your view of their appearance. yep. we'd be in denial if we wanted to say that that wasn't the true reason. and it's not something to be *ashamed* of. lotsa people are insecure. it's just a matter of understanding it and trying to work through it instead of letting it take over your life.
and there is more than one way for it to take over your life.
not all insecure people stay at home sad and stuff. some just carry on everyday comparing their looks with others. "i'm prettier than her. and her." and then they ask people to reaffirm their beliefs. yuck. or rather, poor things.

yeah, i think all that matters is what makes one happy. every person is truly different and unique. priorities are different. views and beliefs. if we all are truly proud of ourselves, not ashamed, and don't give a hey about what people think, then we have found the fruit of comfort and contentment. and which ever way we proceed in doing so, is only the journey to our happiness. so i say big ups!

A lot of us want to be accepted based on apperance, because on the whole, we like to believe that as individuals we can attract others. For some, it's their personality that attracts people, for others, it has to be their apperance. I for one, would like to believe I'm a hottie alpha-male, but I know that's not the case.
In any case, being accepted socially usually means that people accept you externally and if you get closer with a person, internally. I for one try not to care if remarks about my looks are said... good or bad. Ultimately you have to put up with your toughest critic each day... yourself. And if you can't appreciate what you have, then you're going to look for acceptance from other people all the time.
