I ask cuz i heard somewhere when a woman lifts weights and stuff she actually gets shorter (must suck).
if i ever have a daughter id like her to work out a lil, get some muscle so that she can scare boys away (and the nice ones'll stick around)

Not shrink, but I’ve heard before that exercising a lot from a young age causes girls to develop more slowly, thus become shorter adults unless they cool down a bit before they stop growing.
I used to be obsessed with exercise when I was younger and old people used to tell be that would happen, I guess to scare me into stopping.
When I asked one of my parents about it when I was younger, she said something like when have you ever seen a tall gymnast with more than a pancake chest.
Aren't a lot of dancers tall, though?
I’ve kind of always looked at it as an old-wives tale told by old folks who don’t think it is proper for girls to exercise.
actually, heavy weight training and high impact of gymastics and ballet can create growth spurts in both men AND women if they do it at an early age (when their bodies are still growing).
not to say that teens can't do weights but they have to do certain types of weight training that won't interfere with their growth.

shy beat me to it, but yeah, heavy lifting can affect your growth.
i was told i was supposed to be somewhere around 6'7" and i started hitting the heavy weights my sophomore year, noticed my growth slowing, and continued to hit the weights hard for another 2 years. since then, i haven't really moved much past 6'3"

Aren't most gymnasts quite young? Once they reach a certain age I think they're jettisoned from the sport.

Maybe taller ones are weeded out, as heavy ballerinas are weeded out of dance.
The taller you are, you are at less of an advantage in certain areas of the sport, like competing on the uneven bars.
I don't know about the flat-chestedness, though. I can't imagine a coach not allowing someone on a team because she is a C, lol.
