It never fails that I will be called by someone else's name --
* Be it at work, or
* Amongst acquaintences.

At work, I am called by the other Asian in my department. (Don't know if he gets it too.)

Amongst acquaintenances, I am called by some other Asian guy's name.

(Is this a deja vu thead?)

No. I have a very distinct and memorable personality. And if they call me anything other than Mike or Michael or Mikey (which I hate, hate, HATE! What am I? Five?) I go apeshit and try to disembowel them.

I'm called, "The girl who smokes," by the storekeeper downstairs. I really hate it, especially since I know I've told this person my name 4 times.

my bio teacher in HS confused me with another asian chick ALL semester. in her defense, though, both of our names started with "jo-".

Especially in school, I was often confused with practically every other Black girl in the school. However, what makes the situation humorous is that I doubt anyone could have picked a batch of Black girls who looked more unalike.

On my first day I was yelled at for something a 4’10’’ extremely dark-skinned Black girl with dyed copper hair did, and then a couple of periods later was confused for a six foot walking stick with hair down to her ass, and was told by someone how much they missed me or something or another—Confusing me with another.

I had a teacher who never learned my name after an entire school year in her class. She isn’t the only who has done this, but what got me annoyed was how in the world could she confuse me with a way shorter, lighter, hazel-eyed girl who’s only similarity to me was that she also wore her hair naturally. . .And although natural, both of us with completely different textures.

Outside of school, though, I was rarely confused with people I know, so I can’t say how similar we looked. I was, however, told that I look like a bunch of celebrities who look nothing alike.

It just makes me laugh.

I think this is indicative of how strongly race plays a part in people's identification of others. This routinely happens to me. A supervisor kept mixing up my name with that of one of my colleagues--the colleague is much younger and unfortunately much taller.

I mistake nonamerasian for Rhett Butler all the time.

At my last job, a Chinese manager kept mixing up me with my Singaporean Chinese co-worker. Everybody else kept mixing mixing me up with the Vietnamese guy in the group.

no one forgets my name. Only because Clinton is such a weird name to start with, and with me being such a weirdo only enhances their memory.

I do forget ppl's names and call them by other names by accident. So if I forget, seriously, I'm just dang forgetful. Seriously!

I'm a teacher. I don't care how long you have, 300+ names are impossible to remember. You only remember the kids who talk to you, and the bad kids. Throw into the equation that ALL of the kids in my school are Japanese, and they always dress the same way (in school uniforms) and they are not allowed to have their hair longer than a certain length, or colored anything but black (even if the natural color isn't black) or have peircings. Even with all of this, I have yet to mistake anyone for anyone else, but being that I am bad with names, I'm definately not going to remember a lot of people this way. Here, have a look if you want. And stop laffing at my hair.

To make matters worse, I'm guilty of it too -- with other races.

There are a few hispanic men at work, and darned if I don't call the one I recently met by the name of the guy I work more closely with. :(

I kept getting called the other Asian girls in my section for awhile in college.

But I have to admit for awhile all the white people looked the same to me and I wasn't any better.
