View Full Version : What type of gifts do you give to your gf?

Since Christmas is coming up soon...

What kind of gifts do you give to your girl? Do you give her the big-ticket items like Prada bags and Tiffany's? Or stick with something simple and sentimental?

I like the simple and sentimental gifts and the little things that she needs. But I also like to give something very expensive and classy now and then.

whatever is appropriate for the amount of time you've been together and the occasion...

sometime it was something nice, from some designer boutique or tiffany's... or sometimes, it was something i made... or one time it was this:

A week long western Caribbean cruise this year. I have a month long vacation, she's got two weeks off, I need a rest and distance from wintry British Columbia. We have to hop on down to New Orleans since it's our point of departure and I'm very excited! I want to visit the cemetaries (they're really nice from everyone says) and the (haunted) La Laurie house on 1140 Royal Street if it's still there. Plus the food is good too, I hear.

A nice card with a poem you wrote in it goes a lot farther than a McGift you grabbed at the mall.

Or you could just ask her what she wants :)

kimpossible

Honestly, I don't need anything bought for a religious or cultural occasion. I'm perfectly happy with what I have - be downright ungrateful to take what I have for granted and I try to verbalize that appreciate often.

But he knows if he does buy me something, it better not be like some shitty $199-699 diamond earrings from the mall.

Hmm, a garbage can. Too risky IMHO. Not something a girl is going to repeat to her girlfriends at the water cooler.

Guys, if a girl says you don't need to get her anything? DON'T BELIEVE HER? She is being very sweet but you better find her something even if it is small.

I bring home flowers to my wife every now and then. For major occassions she usually has bought herself the gift already ahead of time and charged my account LOL. She never waits.

wtf! wait a minute....so you're telling me that i can get my girl a box of tampons for her birthday instead of diamond earings because she needs the tampons more than the earings? Huh? Has hell frozen over or something? Following that train of thought, food will naturally be more appreciated than tampons...cause you need to eat first......i know i'm streching what you said, but this is the same train of thought is it not? As my girlfriend and I get older, we are coming across fewer things we want. I took her to Hawaii for her 24th birthday, but I told her I won't be able to top that anytime soon.

It felt like my birthday too in Hawaii.

Definitely not gift certificates.

I appreciate anything I receive from my boyfriend, but what I like most from him is time.

We're long distance dating now because I moved from NYC to LA. One time he surprised me by flying in for the day.

I also appreciate it when he surprises me with something I mentioned months back. For our seventh-month anniversary, he got me tickets to "Cabaret" because he remembered on our first date how I said that was the musical I always wanted to see.

ok, I admit it, but I got no clue what girls what. They don't need something expensive but then again a trip to hawaii is ok. No jewlery, no gift certificates, no chocolate, no dinner, but garage cans are ok in certain situations?

How about an orginal song, or a love letter? Am I getting any warmer?

stunninglyAsian

Ideal is the best of both worlds- the cute, little things that make her go "awww" and the big-ticket item(s).

A card with romantic message and the little gifts that she can use daily and needs is always good but it's nice to give the gift that, if you'll allow me to quote Master P:

If it don't fold
If it don't "ching-ching" (sound of cash register)
Then you ain't a real soldier
If you can't maintain

Like a necklace with her name in platinum with her name embedded with diamonds with "gangsta queen" in smaller font below it. But seriously, a Prada bag, Tiffany's jewelry... something along those lines. Not on a monthly basis, but get her one big ass gift every year or so.

what not to get:
- jewelry is nice.. but girls are fickle. my friends and i always giggle or laugh when we see some young sucker buying jewelry for his gf.

I don't understand why some girls wouldn't want jewelry in a semi-serious to serious relationship. Maybe if it's tacky or too expensive (gives off the marry me vibe)... but pick out the right piece and it will be a fantastic gift.

I think it depends on the girl. I don't like jewelry/expensive gifts. Anyway, like everyone says it's the thought that counts. Usually I think girls don't mind at all. As long as you love her, and you show it, and she knows it...

Aren't there any gaming nerds besides me =( ? Pwned. Is when you own someone badly. Like, you frag someone with BFG, full health and armour with your gauntlet and 10 health. Or when you SCV rush and pwn your opponent in 30 seconds and he's playing Zerglings. Then you can scream out, "YOU GOT PWNED!!!!"

Btw, it's the state of "pure ownage" and the guy with the BFG was "pure ownaged". It's pronounced p-owned.

Who asks for presents back? And what are you going to do with a fanny pack?

I think gifts that don't cost money are great too. In college, my boyfriend sung in an a capella group. For my birthday, he got his group, the Yale Alley Cats, to sing "Happy Birthday" a capella style. I really love music so it was special to me.
