so my shoulder is messed up. I'm not sure how, i suspect its from playing volleyball.
It used to only be sore the day after i played volleyball, but now it hurts all the time. Basically anytime that i try to lift my arms above my head i get a sharp pain in my shoulder. Last week, i dulled the pain w/ some pain killers so i could play more volleyball... i regretted it that night because i couldn't sleep all night because my shoulder hurt so much.
it literarly felt like some had stabbed in the shoulder w/ a knife. After about 24 hours, the pain subsided back to only hurting when i tried to life my arms above my shoulder.
is this serious? should i be going to my doc?

sounds like you strained a muscle, overexerted it and didn't give it time to heal. Happens to my bodybuilder friends occasionally. Don't play volleyball for awhile, and try not to carry your backpack on that shoulder... basically give it time to fix itself.
If it's really killing you, you can check out a chiropractor or make an appointment with a massage therapist, but otherwise you're pretty much stuck with painkillers. Another thing you can try is a warm water pack on the shoulder to try and relax the muscles in the area. Either way, you'll probably feel as good as new in a week.
In the future, do you stretch before you play volleyball? If not... that would be a very good idea. There are several exercises you can try to stretch out your shoulder muscles.

wow, great advice... only thing that I would add, if the pain doesn't get any better within a week or so go see a doctor.
