If the lenses are not designed for extended use, they're most likely susceptible to wear and tear. Usually it manifests itself in microscopic rips and pits in the lens which provides a nice environment for bacteria and a whole slew of nasty shit. This could cause deterioration of your cornea, as the lens blocks away the natural cleansing action that blinking provides.

You could get an infection in your eye, and it may become ulcerated.

Another thing that can happen is that the lens is just so weak that it could rip and scratch your eyeball.

Maybe Doc can verify (as I used contact lenses a few years ago and may not be up to date on best practices, or i might even be completely wrong).

I sometimes use a two-week contact lens over the two-week period. But no longer than three weeks.

Reason for this is sometimes I don't have enough contacts lens to last me for the remaining two months before I visit my optometrist.

But don't use two-week contact lens for more than a month. That's terrible!!!

I have 2 week contacts too, but they are meant for daily wear. I eek out a few more weeks out of them, because even though they are daily wear, I still take em out and clean them everynight.

I heard that the two week contacts are about similar quality as long term contacts. I once bought a pair of contacts that were meant to last for a fullyear and they ripped in two days. After that I did the two week thing, and replace them every once in awhile, but longer than two weeks.

The Acuvues I use are definitely thinner than the long-term soft lenses I used to wear. They easily tear with half the force exerted on them. Given they I busted my long-terms twice a year, the cost of disposables equalized it. So I opted for a fresh pair more often, and less care overall.

With the long-term ones, there's a rubbing and rinsing, which is where I'd usually tear them. With the disposables, it's just soak overnight. My opthalmologist told me to replace them every month. With the amount of buildup the lack of rubbing allows, that seems like the safest duration. I don't wear them every day though, which probably helps.

?Yeah, I guess the reason I'm so lax is that I'm still working on getting health insurance again and can't afford more contacts. So I need to make my supply for sixth months worth of disposables last as long as possible :)

because it's dirty and it'll fuck up your eye.
don't be stingy when it comes to your eye.
