(In case your wondering, it's just nice to hear AFs stand up for AMs.)

On the double eyelid surgeries I totally disagree that it is to make people look for Western. Alot of Asians naturally had double-eyelids and were most likely considered attractive long before Westerners came. The surgeries do not make the eyes look more Western, they make them look like other Asians.

Now I have a Chinese niece adopted into the family with single lids. If she wanted to get the surgery done I would not object, she would wind up looking like the rest of the family. Also, if I got older and my lids drooped, is getting the surgery to get my old eye look back considered wanting to be white?

I guess they also make the eyes look bigger but in every culture bigger eyes among women especially are considered attractive, look at kids, they're cute because their eyes are so big in relation to their faces.

really? i don't notice it that much. in fact, if people don't use their own avatar, it's because they are using either a celeb that they like (which has no correlation to the celeb's ethnic origin) or they use cartoon/anime characters.... or something else non-human.

so i don't see your point...

well, i think i can understand BeTheReds intent here...

it's hard to truely say why a lot of these asian women are getting cosmetic surgery. sure.. some might want to look caucasian. and others just want to look prettier. such girls aren't necessarily aiming to look more caucasian in order to be pretty.

it's hard to say.

and though perhaps this article might touch upon some truth, it's still just a journalist's point of view. and perhaps he went out searching for those asians who do have a culture-idendity crisis in order to get 'his angle' (or her... i didn't pay attention to the author of this article).

i think the bigger picture here is... why do these women... or why do ANY women want to get cosmetic surgery when 99% of the time... they look fine! men too... i was watching this documentary about the evolution of penilie-cosmetic surgery, and the doctors all claimed that 99% of the guys who came in seeking for more 'growth' had at least an average size, if not more, penis.

it's all in their minds.

I agree with applehead on one level. Every race has women who may not prefer the looks of their own. But...

I think it becomes bothersome because some Asian women like to air their likes and dislikes to the ignorant majority who because they have so little contact with Asians take it as gleeful gospel that they are superior because their own women reject them.

Sorry that was a really long sentence but do you understand what I am saying? If a white women said that people would dismiss her as strange, if an Asian woman said it people might believe her statement as a condemnation of AMs as a whole. Double standard, yes.

Because we are a small minority the actions of a few people are generalized/stereotyped to all Asians by the ignorant. Combine this with AMs trying to fight bad media stereotypes and I can understand why they're not happy.
