Ability, opportunism, and naked exploitation as well. All in all, I think capitalism is grand old thing for those who have money.

check out Max Weber's The Protestant Ethic. Not the gospel or anything, but it's one of the social science classics on explaining how capitalism came to being. ;)

I think the default assumption is, if capitalism isn't necessarily good, it's the least bad option out there. Otherwise, why would be living in this country?

I think when Europe went through it's mercentilism and colonalism stage, Capitalism spread throughout the world.
